Occupy Wall Street

"Pepper spray was deployed only against subjects who were either refusing a lawful order to disperse or engaging in assaultive behavior toward officers," said Seattle Police spokesman Jeff Kappel.

You sit in in the middle of traffic and you don't expect to be forcibly removed? What planet are these protesters from?

Men and women know that there is a war in Afghanistan, yet they still enlist. They get cold, hungry, away from family during this holiday season and when out in the field doing recon wonder where they will answer nature's call, and they have a lot more worries that being maced, arrested or billy clubbed 24/7. They see their friends killed and yes, they may have to kill. THAT'S SACRIFICE. Not being able to charge your phone and laptop and you want to bitch, yet be taken seriously..... do you not see why this could legitimately piss some people off?

What is this about changing your phone and laptop? I missed something somewhere. I spoke to dozens of protesters and several police officers I never heard anyone say anything about their computer or phone.

So, I'm supposed to be all torn up because people are "near poor?" These near poor Americans are still far wealthier than the world's poor. Try traveling to some non-western countries if you want to see what real poor looks like.

    You are welcome.

I can't think of many truly sane and sympathetic people that would be acceptable to.

Yes it would be silly and no one can. but instead of a lecture about the importance of "technology" or saying that, "the propane tanks weren't hurting anyone, sure they were illegal but......' why is there no sympathy for the people losing EVERYTHING because of stupidity?

I supported it also and yes things do need to change, we do need a debate. But actions and the following attitudes against INNOCENT people is not CIVILIZED and is not part of a civilization I truly want to be a part of.

Tactics do matter and the consequences of the tactics and how OWS handles them speaks volumes about their true motives. Some here on this board, seemingly believe the reverse, that the results that affect innocents are ok so long as they get what they want.

So, it's sacrifice by degrees, is it? Sorry I didn't understand. Unless one is in the line of mortar fire, the sacrifices one makes for one's beliefs is meaningless and illegitimate. Gotcha now.

Yes, but only if they are willing to go out and protest themselves. They can stand out there and point fingers at technobrats all they want. People sitting in front of their TV with a hot cup of cocoa and a john a few feet away who dare to complain about such pittance are the ones who piss me off.

Well, in one post, people say the commie demands are not representative of OWS, then in another, it is?

    Which is it, dude?

I just have a quickie here. Since when in the US did a "citizen" become a "subject"? And when did that change become acceptable?

It doesn't help government or the press' position to start calling us "subjects" and not "citizens".

eddie, dear, you dont know how to read poverty statistics. you dont understand the first thing about them if you take that idiot from hilsdale you quoted earlier seriously. and i'm not interested enough in engaging with your backwater reactionary viewpoint to explain it to you. all i'll say is the more you try to argue your position, the more ignorant you reveal yourself to be. which is remarkable considering your virtuosity in revealing this side of you to now.

Just for clarification the article quoted is from a UK newspaper.

My question is where is it mentioned she was blocking any street?

You're one of the people claiming the commie demands are representative of the movement. You then post a statement two or three posts later claiming they're not like other historic movements because they have no specific demands.

In a sense you're debating yourself at some point.

Right, Tully. You know as well as I do that OWS has yet to outline any concrete demands. In addition, I made the point that a lot of protestors are fringe elements who want communist type government.

But hey, let's just nitpick small things and attack posters instead of debating the movement, right?

If you actually took a closer look, you'd see that my points are consistent with each other. But it's probably easier being an asshole, right?

youre point about communism is stupid. there may be a few of the half dozen remaining trotskyists out there, and i suspect i know some of them and enjoy drinking with them when i have the chance, but your viewpoint is that of fox news in this regard, an index of right panic---if there's a threat and you can't figure out anything coherent to say about what's actually happening, there's always red-baiting. this is america after all. red-baiting works like a charm. snared you. q.e.d.

"Subject" isn't being use in that way here. It may be that we are two nations separated by a common language. It in no way was intended to denote citizenship or otherwise .. it was "subject" as in the person subjected to attack.

No just saying people MAKE conscious sacrifices every day, and when they do so they know what the consequences could be.

Really so the woman in my previous post deserved to lose her business? And have to hear people bitch about not being able to charge their laptops. yeah very civilized and sympathetic to the WORKING class. And you wonder why people aren't more sympathetic to the protesters? Wow. I'll take what we have now, there may not be much humanity or ethics but it sure as Hell beats what I saw from that group and some OWS sympathizers here.

People are supposed to feel guilty because they choose to sit at home and not sleep in the cold.

The protesters KNOW what they are getting themselves into. IF it is too much I am sure they have nice warm beds they can go home to. I understand that they are doing what they feel is right but again, is it right to direct people to stand in front of a business and harass the owner because they can't use her potty? And force her to close down a 40yr old family business because she wouldn't let them go potty? THEY STOLE FROM HER WHEN SHE ALLOWED THEM TO USE THAT POTTY. Then as she leaves in tears not knowing how to pay the bills, those protesters who harassed her and closed her down bitch about how can the charge laptops and I phones. This was a woman who just lost EVERYTHING and you make f'n excuses for those Technobrats? And you want compassion for those selfish idiots? Hell no. They showed her no compassion at all.

I'm not accusing Kirstang of this. From her(?) posts I think the main complaint is that she would like more clarity.

However, there does seem to be a desire to polarise by the Glen Becks and co ..as in "if you don't like the far right agenda, you are a communist". Maybe Norway, Sweden and the UK are considered "communist" by these people (who knows?) but it wouldn't be a definition of communism most would recognise. I think I live in a capitalist country.
