He's not a troll. He's an anti-establishment libertarian who sides with the cops by default and avoids the influence of corporate media by relying on yahoo news.

As I stated earlier, I think as the protesters continue to see little to no results from their movement they will grow more disruptive. And that's the point at which authorities have to shut things down. If you have a classroom, you can't allow a couple disruptive kids to ruin it for everybody. You have to kick the kids out, send them to the principals office. That's the way it goes.

"The media is too conservative to treat the movement as it did the Tea Party."

Hit the nail on the head with that statement.

You have kids throwing rocks and bottles at police, defecating and urinating everywhere, stinking up the downtown area, hurting businesses downtown, shoplifting as local stores, and basically trashing the place. What do people really expect the authorities to do, look the other way?

The Tea Party has held over 300 rallies and never had any problems while at the same time being very effective. So it is possible to peacefully assemble and accomplish something in this country.

There's no evidence anything was thrown at the police. There's one report from "authorities" in one article that spread to other articles, but there's a TON of video of the incident and absolutely no bottles or rocks thrown. Occupy Wall Street at the other Occupy protests are peaceful. In short, it was a lie to excuse stomping on free speech and the freedom to assemble. As for urinating and defecating, that was happening in nearby bathrooms. Another accusation without any evidence whatsoever.

Considering that nationally trumped up charges are the means by which police are attempting to shut down these protests, to err on the side of skepticism is just common sense. Common sense, of course, is something sadly lacking on the corporate right.

Oh, and let's not pretend the Tea Party went on without incident. Aside from the hundreds and hundreds of bigoted signs, numerous leaders in the movement had to step down due to some very stupid shit. Remember Mark Williams? There was a time when a new Tea Partier was resigning every week over something racist or otherwise really dumb. Not only that, but there was a fist fight at the Tea Party protest here in San Jose back in 2009, for about 10 seconds. The stuff that didn't go reported because the movement had the corporate media's support is likely extensive.

What we're discussing at the moment is a matter of tactics, which can change and evolve. What's at the core is what may remain if it doesn't get hijacked. What's at the core are legitimate grievances that won't just go away on their own.

Those of you who don't know what it's like to live in NYC, one doesn't just have to worry about the Mayor but also the Community Board. They happen to have a lot of power to make or break real estate deals, make restaurants/clubs successful, kill liquor licenses, and many other things.

Legitimate grievances. Yes. If this current uprising fails, it will only be a matter of time before the grievances spark another round of protests. The next time, it may be larger and even more determined.

Yes. It will not go away.

These protests could go on for years - on and off - until the grievances are addressed.
So, some compromise needs to be made between locals and protesters.
Of course, it would work out better for all if the cause of the problem and grievances of the protesters were to be seriously addressed.

I'm going to try this OWS stuff and see how it works. I want a new Ford F-250. And I'm thinking I should go camp out in front of the dealership with a cardboard sign that says "give me a new truck now." I wonder how long I'll have to stand out there before the dealership hands me the keys and title?

I have little sympathy for the suits interviewed and could care less about their opinion and take on the situation. If they were as smart as they think they are, they'd be rooting the protesters on instead of whining about having to walk past them.

I find it awkward, really, disagreeing with something without understanding it or coming up with a counterargument by first constructing your own premise.

There's a point at which Poe's Law of politics no longer applies and a line is crossed into trolling.

Seriously, folks, don't feed the trolls.

The pattern in different cities seems to be: 1. police use force 2. negative media attention 3. reach consensus for continued peaceful occupation

Hopefully, that's what will happen in Oakland.

that cycle happens because with the kind of visual coverage system that's been worked out that allows for clips of police actions to circulate virally almost immediately, it's really stupid for the police to act violently. if they were smart, the police would do almost nothing. but it's like pt barnum said about betting on the stupidity of the police.

OWS doesn't want to talk about how to achieve their goals or any sort of strategy or objectives. They just want to stand around and complain about the problems...as kids often do.
