Oh, the Texans pulled out the much needed win with Brandon Weeden, the cowgirls reject.

Damn.....the Lions came close to blowing it.

    -------------------------------

I saw the end of the Broncos-Steelers game. It almost looked like, "No, we don't want to win; here, you take the ball." Osweiler might turn into a good QB, but right now he's no Manning (a prime example of my uncanny ability to observe and describe the obvious :p).

    -------------------------------

I'm trying to figure which teams could be sleepers in the POs. I think that Panthers are really going to need to stay focused, they would'nt be the first inexperienced with success team to fall.

It also appears that there could be an 11-5 or 10-6 team that won't even be a wild card team.

Damn, this thread is way too quiet.

    So here goes....

What about Odell Beckham Jr's hit on Josh Norman? Is a one game suspension sufficient punishment?

I say no. It was clearly premeditated, not an immediate knee-jerk reaction. If Norman had done that to OBJ, he'd be sitting out a lot more games than one. It's another example of the NFL's double standard that favors the star players.

It doesn't matter what the opposing players were saying, that's part of the game. OBJ lost it. Because he's a star he received a slap on the wrist. As I posted, reverse the situation and the DB would've gotten the sledgehammer.

OBJ should be careful. A DB could set him up by allowing him to make a catch, intentionally leaving enough room to knock the living shit out of him.

I keep hearing references to anti-gay comments thrown at OBJ.
    Is he gay?

If he is, there hasn't been any buzz about it. In the manly man world of the NFL something would've been said and reported by now.

But rumors float around the NFL from time to time. The Oilers had a wide receiver who dropped a lot of passes his first couple of seasons, but developed into a very good WR. After 10 seasons with the Oliers he pretty much disappeared from the NFL. There were some rumors that he was homosexual and that's what ended his NFL career. I recall some bitter comments made by him, and he hinted that not being signed by another team had nothing to do with his ability to play football (you would've needed to see the interview). And there were some rumors about a very successful Bears player.

The rumors might've been pure bullshit. Or through some miracle people in the know chose not to reveal anything.

Purely statistically speaking with so many men playing in the NFL there have to be a bunch of gay ones.

I think the NFL hitting OBJ with a full game suspension (and the lost game check that comes with that) is actually a pretty stiff penalty. It is pretty rare that a player who has not been first fined several times for dirty hits to be suspended a game. In fact, I can't remember any player in recent memory to get a full game suspension without several prior warnings and fines.

I have read a few articles that said he's been getting that treatment (gay slurs yelled at him) for much of the season and he finally cracked. The NFL announced a season or two ago that they were going to start penalizing players for using extremely deragatory or offensive language targeted at opposing players (iirc the n-word was a primary example), and they have enforced that a few times. If it is happening to him, it should be dealt with that way, before it gets out of hand as it did in that game. Someone could've been seriously injured.

In other news, it looks like I may be going to see @Chris Noyb 's Texans play tomorrow. We are in Nashville, the tickets are cheap, the weather is great, and the wife hasn't been to an NFL game since we saw Denver @ Indy in 2001.

There are bound to be a few. My guess is some NFL players, namely teammates, and members of the sports media know about them, but admirably keep quiet.

My question, obviously rhetorical, still is--What penalty would have Norman received if the situation were reversed?

The refs can't possible hear everything that is said on the field. As the old saying/cliche goes, "It's the last person who throws a punch who gets caught."

Hopefully the Texans will beat the Titans soundly and then the Jaguars, but with a yo-yo team anything can happen. The Jaguars are the bigger threat IMO, they have nothing to lose and appear to be a better team than the Titans. Last year against the Titans Ryan Fitzpatrick got pulled............for playing so well.

Hoyer is back at practice, non-contact only, and most likely won't play against the Titans, unless I've missed some recent news. I'd love to see the Texans make the POs behind Weeden, since Yates is done for 2015, for two reasons. 1. I don't think that Hoyer is the answer at QB. I've posted my "let him play to see if he swims or sinks" comments, but he hasn't shown much. 2. It would be great for the Texans to win the last two regular season games, maybe even one/some PO games, with a QB that the cowgirls cut.

If similar hits in the past several years by defensive players are an example, I'd argue he only would've been fined.

However, I think the refs failed in that game by not taking control earlier with penalties.

Just bought tickets for the Texans/Titans game. Front row in the end zone, for less than face value.

If you had decided to hang out in front of the stadium you probably could've gotten free tickets.

I had some friends who decided to chip in to buy a Houston Gamblers (Remember them? Jack Pardee? Jim Kelly?) season ticket package. Unfortunately they did this the same season during which the Gamblers organization started going broke. About half way into the season they were walking past numerous people giving away tickets.

The good news was they were allowed, with some cash and/or dope changing hands, to carry in their own food and booze.
