NFL 2014 - Weekly Picks

    :p

The league with 23 people in it has probably 10-12 people in it that I consider fairly serious. I ended up going 175-81 (one loss was because I got my picks in after the Thurs night game). Second place went 165-91, and there were a total of five people at 160+.

In the 13 person league I'd say 10 people give it a lot of thought/time. I went 170-72 in that one. Second place was 163-76. Over half the league had 153+ wins. FYI, if you look at those records and they don't make sense (NFL has 256 games per year, the won loss records don't add up to that many) it is because, at the end of the season, the league automatically removes everyone's worst performing week. So out of the 17 weeks of the season, your 16 best weeks equal your score. That kind of helps out if you don't get your picks in on time for one week or something.

Yes, you are bragging @Borla ...but that's what we're playing for "bragging-rights" :p

And it was a great regular season...
We have @Borla as our regular season winner - Congrats  ...with a dominate first half of the season...fading a bit in the end against the surging field, but still strong enough come through in points and weekly wins.
@grumpyolddude comes in 2nd in points...again with a dominate first half of the season...in a back & forth with Borla. (But didn't win as many tie breakers to keep his weekly wins lower than expected)
Rogue49 has a much better second half of the season after a soft start, staying with favorite teams that weren't producing numbers...coming in with a respectful 3rd in points (and a moderate weekly wins to note)
@ChrisNoyb comes in strong in weekly wins, taking quite a few tie-breakers...a fairly strong 2nd half of the season, brings him in 4th for the season in points.
That's all the folk that didn't miss any weeks....
@ralphie250 comes in 5th in points, missing the first week...and gets on the board with a weekly win for his own mantle piece to show off.
@ZombieSquirrel is picked up after the start of the season...and despite missing some weeks due to being "disabled", shows strong in the 2nd half...comes in 6th in points...and gets a weekly win after a bad ref call is overturned.
@Popeye came in as an end of season starter, put up some respectable points and came in 7th in points.
@Jetee got side-lined after only 2 games (was it because of some injury...or was there some disagreement with the mgmt...or did he do some type of off-field controversy??? We may never know) But unfortunately, came in last. :(

So Borla gets braggin' rights for the regular season, which he seems to already being enthusiastically taking advantage of.

    ----------

And now we have the playoffs.
And just like them...we start from scratch. (unless you're the Patriots...then it will be held against you despite a perfect regular season)

I suggest this for Playoff play...since there are less games each weekend...and we're now "experts" in the Top Brackets. ;)
Not only pick for the winner, but note the total score for ALL games. (note total score for EACH game, just like MNF)

This will allow me to add up all the scores for the closest total for the weekend, especially since there are likely to be lots of ties.
Of course, winner picks will supersede anything else....but the score totals become even more important.
For tie-breakers...total score for ALL games together, wins.

    Sound good??
This should make it VERY interesting. It could be anyone's post-season. :D
    Welcome to the Big Time!!

    Perfect...you are the man.

BTW...everyone remember to watch the dates.
Post-season is different in scheduling than the regular season. (this may be the last for the Thursday night games...everyone was bitchin' about them)

Make sure you get your picks AND scores in before those days & times.
    Good luck everyone.

  8. 1) @borla isn't bragging as much as I had expected.
    2) he won something. Good for him
    3) When I don't read his posts, he's not so bad.

@ZombieSquirrel i hate to tell you but your bengals are going down

  10. Oh...I know. They got destroyed the last time they met up with Indianapolis and they don't have a very good track record of doing well in the playoffs.

    Still can't go against them.

Superfan. Super stupid probably, but still. Superfan.

That one ranks up there with "Practice? We talkin bout PRACTICE?!?", "You play to win the game! Hello?!? You play to win the game!", and "Come after me! I'm a man! I'm 40! I'm not a kid!" :D

  13. That is my favorite coach clip of all times. Thank you Coors for that wonderful ad campaign:

I don't hate Indy. They were my second favorite team back in the day. (Seattle is now my second favorite. It's all about proximity. Indy used to be the second closest to me. Now Seattle is actually the closest to me, but no one will ever beat out the Bengals)

I'm going to leave the playoff picks to y'all. My mediocrity has been established. When the chances of showing improvement are very low, and the chances of sliding lower are very high, it's time to bail.

You had the second most weekly wins in the league, most of them in the second half. You were starting to get on a roll, don't stop now!

  20. It's all about pissing off @borla. I had no chance of winning because I came in so late and often forgot to post....but when I pissed him off, it was glorious. If I didn't always pick the Bengals, I probably would have done better.
