It was neck-and-neck all through the first half. The Seahawks managed to get a couple of critical turnovers in the second half that changed the tide of the game.

The 49ers/Saints game was a good watch this week.

    That penalty was BS.

Given the large number of non-calls on defensive pass interference that I've see this season, I'm surprised that the official would call offensive pass interference on a hail mary. The receiver pushing off was real, the flop was BS.

  4. Carson Palmer going down changes the complexion of next week's Lion/Cardinal matchup. The Lions have a history of failure in AZ, but they are defying history so far this season. If they pull it off, they could conceivably finish with 11 or 12 wins this season. Yikes!

Mark Sanchez is playing like an actual NFL QB. I hope that he keeps it up, the Eagles have a few "easy" games and some tough ones left on the schedule. They need to beat the 'girls twice.

Are the Panthers as bad as their record indicates?

Do the Eagles have more former Texans players than the Ravens?

I think a big part of Sanchez's success is related to Chip Kelly knowing how best to use him. Rex Ryan isn't exactly the QB Whisperer. Kelly is a mad genius on offense.

Some talk on the 'net was anti-Chip Kelly. What's his story?

This will clearly illustrate how little attention I actually pay to the NFL. A couple of years back I was half-assed watching a game, and thought the announcers were saying Jim Kelly. I remember thinking, "Jim Kelly sure didn't age gracefully."

Chip Kelly spent a short amount of time at New Hampshire, then went to Oregon. At Oregon, with serious funding by Phil Knight (founder of Nike) he basically put the program on the map as a serious college football power, and did it in a short amount of time. He was known as an offensive genius basically, but he is also very interested in the science behind sports medicine and how to use proper nutrition, therapy, and even sleep, to keep players in top physical shape. He went 46-7 (33-3 in conference play) before the NFL threw enough money at him to get him to move on.

    So...a couple things.

One, Chip Kelly took over Mike Bellotti's program; Bellotti is really the one who deserves the credit for getting Oregon where it is. First, he was offensive coordinator under Bellotti before becoming head coach when Bellotti moved on to the AD slot. Oregon was already dominating Pac-10 play behind USC by the the time Kelly came along.

Two: Report: Oregon, Chip Kelly appeared before NCAA committee on infractions last Friday | OregonLive.com

Are you ready for some football?

I am. I don't expect the Texans to win, but it'll be good to see what Ryan Mallet can do. The really bad news is Foster is out; I guess we'll also get to see what Alfred Blue can do.

I'm all set up to watch the Hawks this morning. My husband managed to pick up Russell Wilson and Doug Baldwin for his fantasy team. I like that.

WOO HOO!! How about those Texans? Yes, I did pick them to lose in the other thread..........sue me. Alfred Blue played great, & while Mallet wasn't "great" he did what he had to do to get the win.

There have been some shockers so far today, at least to me. The Broncos, and the Seahawks, who are starting to look like a another one year wonder. They're a young team, they could turn into another Patriots. Are the 49ers the luckiest team in the NFL?

    Edit--Win, Eagles, win!!

This could blow up into something very ugly for the NFL

Federal drug agents launch surprise inspections of NFL teams following games
Even uglier than the RG III's two interceptions (one on the first play of the game) and a fumble in the loss to the lowly Bucs.

If team and league sanctioned--unofficially of course--prescription drugs abuse was removed from the NFL,
    what would happen?

A lot of back-up players would be starting in the NFL.

There were some big upsets yesterday. I'm looking forward to the rest of the season because there are some teams with good records built on some ugly wins that shouldn't been close games. The Colts for example.

I'd like to know more about the situation with the male Saints fan who 'intercepted' the ball intended for the female Bengals fan. Was something going on between them prior to the seemingly asshole move? Was he actually being an asshole, or did she deserve to have the ball "stolen?" I'm thinking that if he had done it out of the blue, some of the other fans would've hopefully said something about his classless act. If, however, he had good reason to treat her that way (setting aside the fact he iss male and she is female--I support womens lib) then maybe not. The video clips I saw made it look as though they were joking around.

Adrian Peterson is suspended for the rest of the season, pending appeal.
