Be sure to wear some kind of Packers gear :D. Many 'girls fans still live in 1995--yes, it's now been 19 years since the 'girls did anything worth bragging about in the playoffs, something 'girls fans conveniently forget--so they'll be crying over the reversal for the next 19 years.

    --------------------------------------------------------------

Peyton Manning has been the subject of much speculation after putting up a whopping ten points  yesterday, and let's not forget the even less impressive eight points in the SB. Apparantly the Broncos are going to face some issues trying to re-sign several key players, and some coaches will be leaving. I remember what happened to the Texans in '11 & '12 when they had too many good players and not enough $$.

Edit--I noticed something interesting yesterday. As y'all know I like to make fun of how Peyton pouts when his team loses. Once the game was cearly out of reach I didn't see the usual pouting.

I live in Mexico and don't own any Packers attire. I don't own any team swag. Well I do have an Oregon State Beavers bottle opener on my key chain. Maybe they'll be selling cheeseheads at the airport?

Broncos fans could facing some rebuilding years. It sucks when a "the future is now" team doesn't get it done. I have the sneaking feeling that Manning will be asked....very secretively....not to return to the Broncos.

The 49ers promoted/hired their defensive coordiantor Jim Tomsula as HC. I wonder if Kaepernick squirming?

Just how much influence is Manning going to have with Elway?
    Or are the reports BS?
It seems to me the Broncos should be looking for a clean sweep and rebuilding, i.e. follow what the Colts did post-Manning, not trying to patch what they have. BWDIK?

The Peyton Manning doing a tampon commercial is funny. If he did, he wouldn't be the first NFL player to be in a commercial for a feminine product. Way back when Jets QB Joe Namath did a commercial for Beautymist Pantyhose. You can find it on YouTube. I can't post links yet, count too low. (Can't get quotes either, not sure what I'm doing wrong there)

I don't know what to think about Peyton coming back. I do think that he'll be more than welcome. However, who they hire as a HC to replace Fox will show a lot.

And at the end of the day, Elway has to think about the long term. Manning is obviously a short term solution given his age.

I expect to see him back one more year, and I think Elway will welcome it. After all, it always comes down to "okay then, who are you going to get to replace him?" Someone show me the list of NFL QBs that are available that are equal to or better than even a 39yr old Manning.

One of the news reports (inacurrate? that I read said that Elway was consulting with Manning re who to hire as the next HC. I find that situation interesting. It would appear, at least for now, the Broncos are going to stick with 'the future is now' rather than rebuilding.

I see that as a mistake, but Peyton might yet again surprise the people who have declared him too old to maintain the momentum into the playoffs. A lot of it going to depend on how many Broncos are going to stick around and how many are going to jump ship as free agents.

A big question--Was Peyton's declining performance in the POs due to him wearing down because of his age, or was he injured? I have no doubt that Peyton stays in excellent physical condition year round, but little injuries stay around longer as we get older, and perhaps the accumulation of nagging injuries catch up to a 39yo QB.

    Edit:

The Broncos appear to be a stable NFL franchise that should appeal to many HC prospects.
Would a "hot prospect" coach be willing to be HC knowing that The Broncos Powers That Be want Manning as the starting QB? Will the Manning situation dictate that Broncos hire from within?

I'm guessing that Elway has had at least some conversation with Manning about the HC jobs and interviews. They are probably waiting on Manning to decide if he is coming back for sure or not. My guess is that, if he is, they view this current team as having another year in the championship contending window before they have to make major changes. After all, who are you going to get to immediately step in and be as good as Peyton?

As far as his performance at the end of the season, he tore his quad muscle on Dec 12th. He played the last few games with it. Supposedly it was so bad that though the tear was to one of the front muscles in his thigh, the bruising was all the way through to the other side and visible on the back of his thigh. They kept it hush hush (official injury report gave only "thigh injury" for detail), but it was a fairly substantial thing to play with. He couldn't plant hard and throw hard, and for a QB who uses his mechanics (read "legs and core") to generate the power for his throws, instead of raw arm strength, this had a huge impact on his play. And as slow and immobile as Manning is, this made him even more of a statue back there. I don't know if teams knew exactly how bad he was, but those last few games they were pounding him with A-gap blitzes, which tells me they knew all they had to do was make him nervous about getting hit or having to move out of the pocket.

So overall, I am sure age played a part, and injury was a major part. At this time I don't think he can lead them to a Super Bowl victory anymore unless they have some epic improvement on the offensive line. I'm not sure they can afford the level of improvement they'd need. Though I suppose Peyton could renegotiate his contract to allow for it if they were going to. We'll see.

As far as your edited question, I have no idea. My gut instinct tells me that Peyton would prefer an experienced coach, or someone he is familiar with. Gace (Broncos OC) is getting interviewed for the job. I've heard his being hired for it is a long shot, but I think it may make the most sense if Peyton does come back.

My thought is why would a hot prospect candidate want to spend a year working the offense around Manning when he knows that in 2016 they're most likely going to a new QB? Especially if free agency depletes the Broncos as bad as some sports guys are predicting. If I were a HC candidate I'd want to come in with a very clear "Do it your way" agreement, without a "but not until the 2016 season" stipulation.

Perhaps I'm overestimating the impact of what Manning staying would mean to a new coach.

I'm guessing it ends up being Kubiak.

Several of the experienced local newscasters, guys who've been around quite a while, think that Kubiak is serious about staying put as the Ravens' OC. But the recent news reports say he's going be interviewed by the Broncos, so who knows?

During the Texans' 2013 implossion he made some very questionable decisions.

    Edit--Kubiak AND Rick Dennison????

It'll be even sadder if the Patriots get to the SB.......even if i did pick 'em in the other thread, a brain-over-heart pick.

  17. Who deals with the weather better? Rain and high winds predicted in Seattle... gusts up to 60 mph(!). Looks like Lynch and Lacey may be the key players today, and Wilson's legs over Rodgers' arm may be the deciding factor.

In Foxboro, mid-40*(F) through most of the game with a chance that heavy rains arrive during the second half. If the rains does roll in, late game heroics may be hard to produce. The team that starts strong has a decided advantage.

It's a shame that the weather could be such a determining factor in these crucial contests, but that's football and the best argument for having a well balanced offense.

I think the weather as predicted favors the home teams in both cases.

I'd rather have Seattle's offense in rain and high winds. Especially with Rodger's injury.

I'd also prefer NE's offense and ability to run when they want to in heavy rain.

We'll see if it has an impact, but I completely agree with your last sentence.
