NFL 2014 season thread: The good, the bad, & the ugly.

I've heard/read that the decision was an "organization" one. Which means the owner and/or GM insisted that Geno Smith start, and Rex had no choice. Likely, they want to see him in a few more games so they can decide if he's worth anything at all to them in the future. Calling fewer pass plays than any other NFL team has in any game this season, instead of having Geno pass, was probably Rex's passive-aggressive protest to that. :p

I have no idea what the Jets draft positions might be in 2015 (maybe they traded away a bunch of picks, I dunno), but it seems like they should start their worst QB and just lose. A couple of meaningless wins will hurt a lot more than they'll help. Ryan is a veteran coach, if he doesn't see the handwriting on the wall, it's because he doesn't want to see it. Maybe he figures to boost his record the best that he can, and let his replacement deal with rebuilding. I think he should tank the rest of the season, but....why should Ryan leave the next coach in a position to make Ryan look even worse than he already looks?

Edit--Reading Borla's reply, perhaps the owner and/or GM are throwing in the towel.

The Jets are 2-10. So even if they don't lose again, they'll be 6-10. If every other team in their division loses every game the rest of the way (which is impossible, since a couple of them play each other), the Jets are still guaranteed to be in last place, as every other team has at least 7 wins already. So at this point, the only thing they have left to play for is to evaluate talent, which is why I think they are starting Smith. He hadn't really played with many offensive weapons to speak of. Now he has Percy Harvin to help open things up a little. If he can't make a decent go of it, he'll be gone. At this point the only thing the Jets have to lose is draft position, and if by some stretch, Smith actually turned it around and started playing like a real starting QB, they'd gladly lose a spot or two in exchange. Though I don't see him showing that....

To further beat a dead horse,

I wonder if the Titans game was the only time Fitzgerald got pulled early for playing well.

Edit--Mentioning playing a QB to evaluate his talent rather than worry about wins/losses, Mallet's injury & Fitz' performance have probably put OB in a tough position. Although I doubt that anyone expects Fitz to play well with any consistancy given his history.

Borla, as usual, your detailed analysis spells things out very clearly  . Thnx for the info!

So you think that Texas should extradite this guy and give him a room at the Silver Bar Motel?

Just saw a report that the Ravens' Ngata has been suspended for four games for testing dirty for PEDs.

He admitted he took Adderall. We want to feed it to any hyper kid like it's Pez, but heaven forbid an athlete take it.

In reality, it is a bit of a PED for them, including when it comes to mental prep for the games. But it is also on the list of drugs that isn't too hard to get a waiver from the league for either. So I don't understand why guys just don't do that.

I had to look up Adderall. As I guessed a drug similar to Ritalin.

That's a good thing, IMO. The Texans obviously aren't where they need & want to be, so they might as well give Clowney time to heal (he's going to have another surgery on his knee). The guy is taking some flak, some of it deserved, but when you look at the accumulation of his injuries, Clowney has had a tough season. Hopefully he'll be healthy and ready to play next season (Houston sports fans are understandably sick of hearing "next season").

With that said, if he turns out to be injury prone, or a guy who wimps out over a hangnail, yeah, he could be a bust.

OK, Eagles, it's now up to y'all. The Bears couldn't be competative in a pissing contest at a brewery.

OK, Texans, time to quit patting yourselves on the back for last week, something which I feared would happen. Good teams shake off losses, and big wins. Y'all are not a good team.

Can the Browns score a field goal with about 32 seconds left in the game?

    Hell fucking no.

So obviously RGIII hasn't performed as hoped in DC. It is getting to the point where it is probably fair to label him a bust.

Maybe you remember how RGIII got to DC in the first place?

St. Louis had the #2 pick in the draft that year (Luck went #1 to Indy). Dan Snyder threw a huge package of draft picks to St. Louis to move up and grab RGIII.

So guess what St. Louis did today, aside from beating the Redskins 24-0?

They sent Stedman Bailey, Michael Brockers, Janoris Jenkins, Alec Ogletree, Greg Robinson and Zac Stacy out to represent the team for the coin toss.

Why is that trolling the Redskins?

Those are the six players the Rams got from the draft, instead of RGIII, who was benched for the game.

    That's pretty funny. :p
