I'm in a NFL pool with about 200 other people. It's a simple pool, you just pick one team to win each week, and you can't pick that team again the rest of the season. I made it to last week unscathed, then I picked the Giants. I mean, it was a sure bet. The Giants, at home, against the Seahawks. I wasn't the only one who thought that, either. 147 other people in the pool picked the Giants to win, and now 147 of us are either in the consolation pool, or out entirely. I shoulda picked New England.

  3. My buddy is in the same kind of pool, but 2 of them. This week he picked Giants for the one at work and New England for the one with his friends. He's pretty obsessed with this, but he does stand to win a lot of money if he wins.

My thoughts on a few of today's games-

    Lions -5
    Bears -3
    Colts +6 1/2
    Giants -3
    Texans/Ravens on the over
    Cowboys/N.E. on the over

Doesn't mean I like or dislike the teams, simply means given the points/odds these picks look appealing to me.

Push on the Giants, lose on the Colts and the Lions. Not a good start.

Well, I don't think anyone expected GB to lose to STL, but it's nice to see them win in any case. Any guesses on the fine AJ Hawk will get for flipping the bird?

fflowley Don't just do something, stand there!

    That was really a heartbreaker.
If Fitz throws that last pass 3 yards deep in the end zone, instead of underthrowing it and having it picked off at the 1....
Well I know that's too many ifs.
    Sigh.

Yes nice job Packers, easily covered the +14 1/2. Now let's go Bears (not often I'd root for them but...)

Note to Tony Romo: Hail Mary passes are more effective when they are thrown in-bounds.

Best game of the weekend: Lions/49'ers. Great game made even better with the coaches getting into the little tizzy at the end.

If the 'phins only win one damn game all season.. for the love of FSM please.. PLEASE let it be against the Jets.

Yes please. I need the Dolphins to win for my confidence pool. (Since I'm a Patriots fan and my wife is a Giants fan, we have no choice but to pick against the Jets, even if it is for only one point.)

I think MIA has a decent shot tonight. They're sitting at +9 right now and I think that's kind of insane because I think they could win it outright. If not tonight they have decent shots at KC and the Jets again later.

That's the thing. Miami was supposed to have a decent shot at the division this year. They were 5th in total defense last year (although their offense was horrid). They supposedly bolstered their defense and had worked out some of the offense, but they suck on both sides of the ball and their special teams is non-existent. Maybe I should be rooting for 0-16 so they can draft Luck from Stanford and have a decent quarterback for once.

I've been putting a little action on the NFL, NCAA FB, NBA and at times a few other sports here and there for, well a long time. And the number of gamblers this year who, the minute they lose a game to a odd looking dropped ball/pass, start screaming "They're losing on purpose so they can get Luck" is insane. Gamblers are an odd bunch. Most will claim some conspiracy plot at nearly anything they lose money on and most never lose money, that they admit to anyway. I chat with guy all the time that seem to always be winning. A few hundred to a few thousand, they're up all the time. On-line poker players are the worst, IMO. I'm usually thinking "if that's true why did you tell me you're living in your bother's basement?"

I always start each season with a set amount and if it goes away I quit. Some years I've been done before thanksgivings and others years I've managed to fund a trip to Reno (never liked Vegas) for the Super Bowl. Several times that trip has paid for other vacations. One year that trip bought my daughters first car.

You I've looking at different aspects of this match up and the number of times the home team has been toasted is kind of shocking. I was going to put a unit or 1/2 unit on MIA but After this weekend I think I'll just lay off tonight. But still think they at least cover the 9 point spread. Of course I also thought the Lions and Colts would win yesterday and the Texans/Ravens game would go over.

Sorry Sun, so far MIA deserves to lose this game. They're just handing it to them.

  18. The Marshall/Revis matchup was interesting.... If only Marshall could catch.

Miami's biggest problem is their D-line. Dirty Sanchez had all night to throw the ball. Sanchez, who's horribly overrated, looked like Brady out there against that weak ass pass rush.

No doubt, it was an ugly game.
