NFL 2011 discussion thread

  1. LOL, I know what you mean. But regardless who is the QB, Martz has taken that away as an option. Seems limiting.

I do think Cutler seems to have settled in more these last 4-5 games. Before he was in a near panic with every snap of the ball. I'm sure better protection is the key. I'm comfortable where he's at now.

What I can't figure out is how the Bears O line can now protect him so much better than they did earlier in the year. No major changes, just better utilization of personnel. Was like that last season as well. I'm no fan of the Bears coaching staff, I don't think they had the team prepared for the season the past two years. Or didn't understand the players they had or whatever. It took them until 6 games into the season before they got it figured out. Two years in a row? Something's wrong.

Well, it's widely held that Cutler has the strongest arm in the NFL and the only reason he hasn't put up Rodgers, Brady, Brees type numbers is because he's had zero protection in the past 3 years. Last year was an absolute disaster for the Bears 0-line. And this year has been scarcely better. But when 0-line does step up and play well, Cutler dissects any defense.

Last week the Eagles destroyed the Cowboys with screen passes. The Cowboys would bring pressure and Vick would dump it off to one of his receivers. They didn't do that this week. Vick was either throwing it downfield into coverage or scrambling around looking downfield. But yes, I do give a lot of credit to the Bears D. There's a reason they're the defending NFC North Champs.

  3. The Bears have been very suspect at the safety position. There were a few instance last night where that was evident, but not nearly as bad as in the past. Probably why Vick was looking long.

Oh how I love watching the Pack stomp the shit out of the Vikings. A much more decisive game than last time, glad to see our D step it up. Hell, our backup even got himself a TD. Watching that game was like watching someone playing Madden on rookie difficulty.

Yeah, the Vikes looked awful last night. I turned it off in the 2nd quarter.

I periodically checked the score on that game while doing homework. Every time I did, I felt glad that I was modelling death times for nonHodgkins lymphoma instead of watching the game.

I'm torn with Miami's win. They're out of the running in the Luck sweepstakes, but at least they won again.

Team I was most impressed with?? Cincy. If they play their cards right, they may be heavy contenders in a season or two.

As a Bills fan watching his team sink like a lead zeppelin, I am now worried that we still have 2 games upcoming against the Fish.
And when the Bills were playing well (actually still undefeated) Cincy played very well against them. They looked really solid and I think their future is bright.

I can't help to think that the Bills rushed to give Fitzpatrick that contract extension.

    I'm a big Fitz fan.
The Bills have a tiny payroll and very few quality players so I think signing Fitz (and Fred Jackson next) was essential.
Fitz has looked horrible the last 2 games, along with the rest of the team. But I think that he did enough to justify the contract.

You may be right, but if I was a Bills fan, I would have preferred that they wait until the end of the year. I don't think too many other teams in need of a quarterback will look to Free Agency for one considering the number of quality QBs that will likely be available in the draft.

Yeah! TEBOW TIME IN DA HOWSE! Haters gonna hate but Tebow is the real deal. And finally there's a superstar roll model in football for kids to look up to. NFL hasn't had one of those in awhile.

Not a hater, but a realist. Tebow has come through when needed, but the Broncos will not be able to win running this offense in the long term. If anything, they are trading Tebow's, and the Broncos', long-term success for wins now. If the plan is to develop him as a passer, they are not doing that at this time despite the fact that they are winning. Too much credit is being given to Tebow and not enough to the defense who are the ones that have really stepped up since Tebow took over as the starter. If the Broncos continue to keep the game close into the 4th quarter, Tebow will continue to have opportunities to "win" the game, but it will be interesting to see what happens if the Broncos fall behind early by a couple touchdowns.

I've personally been trying to catch every Broncos game because I'm definitely interested in seeing how the Tebow experiment progresses.

I agree, Tebow is not a great pocket passer. He get's anxious in the pocket, it's easy to see. But his passes seem to work when he's outside the pocket. I'm not worried about Tebow developing into a good passer. Elway is running the team now and if there's anybody who knows what it takes to become a great qb it's him. So this is really a great time for a young qb to settle in and learn from the pros. I think there's a very bright future in the NFL and in Denver for Tebow. He's a guy with a lot of talent and a lot of heart.

One thing I noticed last night was how much the team rallies around Tebow. And we all know that a unified, tightly knit team can accomplish a helluva lot more than a team made up of a bunch of individuals doing their own thing, like the Jets for instance. Football is a team sport and it takes a solid team to win. If nothing else, Tebow brings his team together, he brings the fans together.

Hey at least you guys didn't lose your starting quarterback for the rest of the regular season.

And I think we've now put the question of Cutler's toughness to bed, considering he played 10:34 or so of the 4th with a broken thumb that might need surgery.

I've never doubted Cutler's toughness..I've only doubted his decision making abilities.

  20. Pretty much a kick in the balls with Cutler going down. The team was getting better each week.
