Yep, but thats also why its tolerated more. Its why its pretty much accepted as normal with pro-athletes, the competition for resources is less of an issue when your husband is making 10 million a year. The same would go with mistresses etc.

Its only in modern times that a man can be sure a child is his, and even then a lot of laws still hold the man accountable even if its proven not to be his since they were formulated prior to this and there is a bit of "well someone needs to provide for the child" mentality out there.

Basically male and female jealousy is real and genetic, but as you point out, for different reasons. My wife had a lot easier time with me doing other women then I did with her doing other men at first.

Having had a good number of FMF's and MFM's, the MFM is a lot easier in terms of sexual logistics. That being said, its hard to beat two women giving you a simultaneous BJ while also making out with each other. Its just my end which gets hard.... wait that didn't sound right.. difficult to perform on both simultaneously.

 

Beyond the "genetics and reproduction" angle, I wonder how much the nature of the differences in sexual attraction between men and women factors in.

Speaking in overly-broad stereotypes: it is generally accepted that women are more appreciated on the basis of physical appearance than men. Obviously by men. But even straight women appreciate physical beauty in another woman. Factors that are broadly stereotypically considered attractive in males are far more context dependent: confidence, status, experience, et. al...

generally when one speaks of an MFM, or an FMF (or any anagrams thereof) they're talking about a tryst, or a recreational opportunity for an established couple with an invited guest. Much less so is the object an ongoing relationship. From that standpoint, it is much easier to imagine a woman coming in as an object of desire who slips quietly out of your way the next day.

I would imagine that the percentage of couples who fantasize about this kind of thing is considerably larger than the number who actually partake. Keeping it in the realm of fantasy only serves to exacerbate this effect.

 

An ongoing relationship would take it into the realm of polyamory. (Not that there's anything wrong with that.)

But there are orders of magnitude more men available for such activities than women. Single women in the swinging world are called "unicorns".

 

This is true. But the conversation to which I was responding had tended toward perception of such activities and people's gut level reactions and basic evolutionary/psychological/cultural explanations for those attitudes.

Reality no doubt, has a way of tempering expectations. The law of supply and demand being one of but countless examples I'm sure.
