Our youth group once went on a field trip to Tillamook where we saw both hangars. I visited that air museum housed in the surviving hangar back 2004 and took pictures of the remanants of the burned hangar. My reading skills took a sharp decline when I reached the 'no trespassing' signs that would have stopped me way too far back for a good picture.

cheesy: my (now ex) SO looking into my eyes when she told me she loved me. fuckin got me every time.
awesome: seeing the world coming up to meet me when i went skydiving
chilling: seeing a "missing man" formation flown over the Academy after the death of someone close
"fuck yeah": seeing a CV-22 pilot wave back at me, maybe 40 ft over my dorm room

I've had some truly awesome moments in my life. I feel fortunate to live in a state full of them.

Our summer vacation was full of such moments, from hiking up to the bowl of Broken Top and being able to see all the way to Diamond Peak right down to seeing my knee split open and seeing my silvery-blue patella.

One day, this should include (from you): "Being catapulted off of a aircraft carrier in to an enveloping sea."

Seeing 500 parachutes open in the moonlight over Fort Bragg's Sicily drop zone as part of a mass tac jump.

So many 'chutes open in the night sky. People literally walking on each others' canopies to get to the ground.

    ...

Watching the Orion constellation step up over the horizon at Khayr Kot in Afghanistan. It was really quite daunting.

The stars are bigger, the sky is deeper in third world shitholes. It made me feel like I was going to float off into space.

I can claim that one, left the carrier halfway through my second Med Cruise when we were in the Persian Gulf. Had not given it much thought in the past 12 years.

Swimming in the cold Pacific off the coast of San Simeon with a friendly group of sea lions. Treading water and being completely surrounded by these heads bobbing up around me was jaw-dropping. Seeing the Northern Lights for the first time blew my mind. Gaping at the public artwork Cloud Gate or as Chicagoans know it, 'The Bean' was the most cool aesthetic experience I've had. It's defo TMI but on a deeply personal level, the birth of my 2nd son. The doctor needed to use modern-day forceps on him--a sort of suction dome for the skull because despite me being sliced open like a Christmas turkey, the baby was stuck. It was a bit dicey and no one would tell me what was happening and the dumb sheet was between me and the action. After what seemed like hours but must have only been minutes I felt a hard tug on my innards. Next I saw this HUGE kid hanging upside down. It was the biggest newborn I'd ever gazed upon. He's now 6'4", so yeah.

Only 9 lbs. 3 oz. but always thereafter way off the charts in size.

On another note, it seems quite a few men were impressed by the birth of their child which is super-nice. Wondering though since the woman is 'occupied' that the moments right after birth are quite different for her.

  13. I think we forget that its not just their birthday, but also the anniversary of the day we first met them.
