Chicken McNuggets with that sweet'n'sour dip is the stuff. But it seems that we digress.

Can we at least agree on Nando's chicken being good?

I think it's less a testament to the 'great taste' of a McRib and more to the power of advertising. Limited time offer, hurry in...like you are really gonna miss something good if you miss a friggin' chopped, pressed, pretend rib sandwich. I'll answer Plan9's question. Yes, people will eat anything.

I've had it since 10 years ago and can still get it whenever I go to Germany. Still would get it, cause I like the taste.

What does that have to do with advertising?

Some people like the taste of McRibs. I happen to be two of them.

cj, that's because you only had one sneaker sole's worth. You have to eat an entire gym mat to really appreciate the subtle nuances of the flavor.

The last time I went to McDonald's was about five years ago. Several of my colleagues were going there for lunch, so I said why not and tagged along.

I recall that I ordered a toasted chicken sandwich. I don't even know if these are still on the menu. I do recall that somehow they'd managed to coat the toasted bun in grease.

Yeah, I think I'll pass on the McRib, or McAnything else. It's all McCrap.

fflowley Don't just do something, stand there!

I raise hogs, and eat nearly every part of them, and I can confidently say there is nothing about a McRib that even remotely resembles actual quality pork.

I hadn't had one in years, didn't have a clear memory of McRib, so today I decided to see what all the fuss was about.
Since I watch my carbs, and especially try to avoid white bread, I discarded the McRib Bun, not particularly caring whether it was "special" or not.
The pork patty was chewy, the sauce was properly tangy, but too sweet, and overall, way too salty. I liked the coarsely chopped fresh onions. The pickles were taste free. Cost, w/tax, was a little over $4.

Nutrition (from McDonald's website) with condiments, but w/o bun:
330 calories, 24g fat, 16g protein, 12g carbs, including 9g sugars. 610mg sodium, about 1/4 teaspoon of salt.

Overall experience was kind of, meh. I might have one again, might not. I wouldn't go very far out of my way for a McRib, though.
For pork, I'd much prefer real smoked bbq ribs or pulled pork. Or my dad's green chile pork.
Or even Mickie D's pork breakfast sausage patties, which I would rate as quite good. Or for about the same price, 4 McDoubles, of which I would only eat one, possibly two, without buns.

24g of fat means 216 of the 330 calories are from fat!!! and saturated fat, at that.
Maybe people would be better off with the gym mats.............

Being a sales guy on the road I do eat at McD's far too often. I do love the sausage mcmuffin with egg. And usually just have a double cheeseburger.

No desire for the mcrib though, don't think I've ever had one.

    Bear Cub Goes down smooth.

I used to be the world's biggest McRib aficionado (think Homer Simpson and the Ribwich). However, the last re-release they did was massively disappointing. The rib patty changed in size and texture, and the sauce tasted noticeably less bbq-ish, and far more tangy/vinegary. The new McRib is not the McRib of old, and I am abstaining from all future McRib's accordingly.

You should've written for Gourmet Magazine. That sounds like larrupin' good food.

Maybe you had a bad batch. ;)
