Food Looking for Chicago restaurant suggestions, yes, you heard me. But for breakfast/brunch only!

Dude: Walker Brothers Pancake House in Wilmette (though I think they have a few other locations, the Wilmette one is the original, and, IMO, the best)!! Insane pancakes. Mrs. Levite lives and dies for the German Apple Pancake: I myself have been known to swoon for the '49er Flapjacks. Crazy crazy awesome. It's a must!

The Lucky Platter is good, though, too. No question.

The Walker Bros. Pancake House is a spinoff of the Original Pancake House, and anywhere you can find one of those, the breakfast is bound to be the best. Personally, I go for their Dutch Baby. My husband likes the '49er flapjacks. The original Original Pancake House is in Portland, by the way. We heard we had to go there when we were in Chicago, but since Oregon has some of the first OPHs, we passed. I don't regret it--however, if Borla has never been to either Walker Bros. or OPH, that's a different story.

I appreciate all the added input. I'll probably create a list of suggestions and let the wife choose.

And yes, snowy, I went to OPH when in Oregon. I went to the one in Eugene. :)

Well, it's a month later and I was wondering where you ended up going, and how it turned out.

It was actually last weekend. :)

Our plans kind of got shuffled around a bit. I posted a few details of the hotel room in Pointless Announcements starting here: Pointless Announcements | Page 938 | The TFP

On Saturday our plan was to head up to the city and go to a late breakfast. We both slept in far later than planned, so we decided to make it lunch. We drove by Stephanie Izzard's new "Little Goat" hoping to get in but knowing it might be busy since the just opened and "Girl and Goat" has been such a hit. They told us the wait would be 75-90 minutes, so we went down the street to Haymarket. There they said 60-70 minutes. So we went to Paddy O'Fegan's (had never heard of it, but it was close and had a parking spot right out front, was forgettable). We no longer placed our order there than Little Goat texted us to say our table was ready, barely 20 minutes after they told us it would be 75-90 mins. :( Even though we were only two blocks away, we had already placed our order so we couldn't walk out and run down there. *ripped*

We made up for it with an epic dinner at David Burke's, including a tour of their meat aging room. :D

The next morning we were going to go to Bongo Room, but the wife decided she wanted to stop by Water Tower Place when we checked out of the hotel room. So by the time we got checked out of the hotel (how can you not linger when you are upgraded to the Presidential Suite? :p ) and went down there it was lunch time, so I ate at M Burger and she got stuff at Fresh Market.

Usually we are very good about setting a plan for where we are going to eat and sticking to it, but getting a later than normal (and very refreshing and deserved) late start both mornings put the kebosh on any good breakfast places. But I still have this thread noted for myself for next time.

What general area will you be in?

Hard to beat David Burke's for dinner.

Kuma's Corner has awesome burgers and awesome man n' cheese. If I had only two meals in Chicago, that's probably what I'd do.

we'll be staying at Hotel Sax and oops, not dinner, lunch, lunch... they have offices across the river on Wacker. They say it's just across the street from the hotel, but c'mon, it's not literally. LOL

David Burke's just announced they are now open for lunch. Based on their ribeyes, I'd recommend the ribeye sandwich. :D

It's nearby. Kuma's Corner is probably a bit far and not the setting for a business meal.

My $.02. I'll refund the cost of the advice if it fails to be less than great. :p

Probably because you just saw it in the "Recent Threads" box at the top of the main page.

    But that's just a guess. ;)

Fine. Just for that I'm not telling you about the new steakhouse that's opening downtown, smartass.

I had lunch at The Kitchen Table at Smith & Wollensky again a little while ago. It's a private room right off the kitchen on the bottom floor. It's pretty sweet, although it's not my favorite restaurant. Wine Week is coming up soon, though.

Fine, fine, I'll play nice. :p

Have you been to Chicago Cut or the new Michael Jordan's yet?

I got a little extra treatment from David Burke's a couple weeks ago.

Kitchen Table treatment is pretty sweet. Probably the best and most unique dining experience of my like was at the Kitchen Table at Charlie Trotter's. Bucket list type stuff right there.

I've been to Chicago Cut enough that the staff knows me by name. Actually, they know my boss, but I'm along often enough that they know me.

I haven't been to the new Jordan's, though. I went to 23 Blue a lot, but that's been gone for a while.

I've heard good things. I'm assuming if you are there all the time you would agree? What would you compare it to?

It's quite excellent. In terms of food, I'd put it up there with Morton's, Joe's or David Burke's - those are the 4 best steakhouses in town.

However, the ambiance is better than most. Instead of the dark steakhouse look, they've got gigantic windows and a slightly brighter interior. Their wine list is phenomenal as well.
