I post in a great many forums. But I'm certain this forum will become my main go to forum.

Wrong. You could find quite a few pictures I've posted here from successful hunts if you looked around enough.

In this case you were the bad guy. You can help to correct the two wrongs, 1. taking/stealing a soda that didn't belong to you, and 2. lying about it.

    1. Bring in at least a six-pack of the soda that "Mary" likes. Apologize to "Mary" for your actions, and give her the sodas.
    2. Bring in your own damn sodas, combined with don't take things from the fridge that don't belong to you.

I've been through this with several office jobs. I'm amazed at the number of (mostly otherwise) honest & intelligent people who manage to justify taking food & drinks that isn't theirs. And yes, I'm one of those people who kept food & drinks at work. One girl used to leave notes in the fridge, "I'll replace your (whatever)." Of course she never did. She also mooched hair spray, contact lens solution, tampons (seriously), etc., but at least she had to first ask the owners. One day our big boss from OOT was visiting and put several diet Pepsi's in the fridge. She got busted when she took his last one. Everybody gave her how-can-you-be-so-fucking-stupid looks, but she just shook them off. No, she didn't get fired.

On another job downtown we had a second shift that handled mostly document copying. At that time the few stores and fast food food places in downtown pretty much closed by 6:00PM. Several people on 2nd shift thought nothing of helping themselves to whatever they could find in the fridge. We had court reporters who literally ate on the run; if their food was taken they didn't have time to stop for lunch. "Borrowed" office supplies was another problem. I even took to writing my initials on the light bulb in the lamp in my cubicle....and that didn't stop people from "borrowing" it.

At my company there is a break room shared by both the office and the plant employees. Only the plant operates during second shift, and food left by first shift (office or plant) would almost always disappear by morning, even when clearly marked. One guy in the office left a few nasty notes, to no avail. Everyone pretty much knew the main culprit or two. One of them operated a crane that runs high above the shop floor, which requires him to be in the crane's cab, 40' up in the air. To use the bathroom from the crane, depending on where in the building the overhead crane is at, it might take 3-4 minutes to get to the other end of the building. Then down several flights of stairs. Then several hundred feet across the plant to the nearest bathroom.

Any guesses where this is going?

The guy who got the most angry about his food being stolen baked a big batch of brownies. He put a whole bunch of laxative in them. It was the crane driver who was stealing the food (or at least mainly him). After the brownie incident he stopped. :p

    More ranting....

There are many reasons why people leave food at work:

Necessity. I've driven straight to night classes from work with no time to spare. My 'wolfed-down' snacks, or lack of, made a big difference in my energy level, attention span, and general mood.
    Convenience.
Dietary restrictions. I worked with a guy who had major medical digestive issues, he truly needed his specially prepared food and drinks.
    Financial reasons.

Yes, I sound a bit obsessive, but I've heard too many people say, "Come on, it's no big deal, it's not like I'm stealing money." Yes, it is a big deal , and yes, you are stealing something of value. There's no difference between taking a five dollar bill out of someones desk and taking their five dollars worth of food out of the fridge.

I knew a guy who worked on a construction site where the company had a small trailer with a fridge. He got tired of the "Hey man, don't worry, I'll bring in some drinks" and "What are you going to do about?" crap from the same couple of guys. He claimed that he 'doctored' some sports drinks they liked in plastic bottles, very carefully gluing the caps so that they 'snapped' when opened. If you've ever been in a Port-A-John in the middle of the summer for anything other than a quick pee........
I didn't work with him, but he was the type to get revenge without direct confrontation.

It's good to see this forum becoming more diverse. Petty thief twits with a sense of entitlement have always seemed underrepresented and underserved here.;)

It's nice to be able to "meet and greet" those folks. From a distance.

Then go to the fucking store and buy it. What you did was stealing. Then you lied about stealing. And you see nothing wrong with that? What a twit....

If your coworkers can't trust you, then how can your boss? Any reason you shouldn't be fired for what you've done?

Look it's an office. It's not like you can just run out and grab a beverage!

So when they went to grab a beverage, and someone had stolen all of theirs, what were they supposed to do?

Dude, haven't you read Les Misérables...?

It's 1,500 pages of "For the love of God, don't steal food unless you're literally starving [or, in your case, don't steal a drink unless you're literally dying of thirst]!"

Look the soda looked good so I took it. I really don't see the issue.

I hope he steals something from @ZombieSquirrel 's office. That should end well.

Other than it being a misdemeanour at best and a felony at worst?
