I think you should enjoy your night out with friends. If they have a problem with you being able to share your good fortune with them, then they're not true friends. That, or you two (or more) would need to talk about it.

Bingo... If you are taking "a bunch" of friends to a place like Morton's and you pick up the entire bill, that'll set you back about a week's salary. That should be thanks enough, and if I was your friend I'd be more than happy to be there to celebrate the promotion. I'd say to myself, "Self, that dude can pay for all of us HERE? Good for him, and I can't wait for... A. me to get a promotion and return the favor, or B. you to get another promotion and do it again.

What looks worse... saying you'll do something, then not do it. Or do what you said you'd do and run the "risk" of being showy...? Go get some steak!

 

Do it. It's a reason to celebrate. New and better jobs traditionally have some a brief period of extra cash before you find a means of spending it, anyone who's worked should how that goes. Spend away, send wisely!
