The ducts that carry sperm out of the scrotum are lined with smooth muscle, which is how they contract to move sperm. Without this muscle tissue, such movement wouldn't be possible.

Okay, some of the muscle tissue at the base of the penis lies between the scrotum and the anus, but most of it resides above the tissue between it and the sofa. There is at least two inches of tissue (much more depending on how big your gluteus maximus and vastus lateralis muscles are in addition to the amount of fat tissue you carry in that area). You could easily have plenty of tissue, blood, etc., between the sofa and the one small area at the base of your penis which might be affected.

I've already said the urethra is well-protected by engorged erectile tissue, so I can't imagine sitting on the edge of the sofa would have any negative effect, considering the scrotum sits ahead of that area. I don't—I repeat, I do not—recommend exerting too much pressure on your scrotum while ejaculating. Well, at all. This is a sensitive structure, and doing so will cause a lot of pain.

That said, I don't know of any guys who crush their scrotums (scrota?) while jacking off.

 

Must we assume that at the margin all sofas (or is it sofi) are of the same stiffness? Is the compressile strength of a sofa edge the same for inner-spring and foam?

For that matter, is the stiffness of the erection effected by the stiffness of the sofa?

Actually, they absolutely DO have to do with orgasm! As anyone who's sucked a lot of balls can tell you, the cremaster muscle contracts just prior to orgasm, drawing the testes up towards the body in preparation for ejaculation.
