    Uh, not really. A good desk chair and a good sofa have similar construction in terms of underlying structure and cushioning in the seat to a point; some desk chairs run a little thinner on the padding than others. I would even argue that due to that, desk chairs are even more likely to exert this apparent pressure you're worried about.

    This is what I was thinking. The sofas I'm familiar with have way more padding than the typical office chair.

    Being afraid has nothing to do with it. It is the understanding of the movement of the muscles used at orgasm and how furniture pressure can interfere with this and cause muscle and nerve tearing. There are literally billions of men at risk because they are not aware of the dangers of seated masturbation.

    This "risk," if true, could cause the billions of men who jack-off to possibly, through muscle and nerve damage, lose their ability to sustain an erection and ejaculate.

    Could this eventually lead to a welcome reduction in the overpopulation of the world?

    I've watched my guy masturbate while sitting on the sofa. Even offered helpful suggestions. He never sits bolt upright while he jacks his upright bolt. He tends to slouch down into a semi-reclining position.

    Basic male anatomy will show you that the seminal vesicle, prostate, ejaculatory duct, and urethra are well protected in part by the pelvic floor muscle, rectum, and (engorged) corpus spongiosum tissue. The path of ejaculating semen is literally padded by all this tissue. Also, even with moderate pressure applied to these tissues, I don't think the force of the ejaculation would be enough to cause muscle and nerve damage.

    Some men suffer from obstructions along the ejaculatory duct, and the worst of the symptoms are typically low semen volume and some pelvic pain after ejaculating, certainly nothing as serious as muscle and nerve tears. I think you overestimate the function of ejaculation.

    If this were an issue as serious as you suggest, urologists, etc., would already know about it.

    Sitting on the edge of a seat is probably fine. Just don't sit on, say, a tennis ball or something worse.

    I have always done it in the very slouching semi-reclining position that you describe. And so does every other guy I've ever discussed it with.

    Frankly, I assumed that every guy did it that way, or lying down, unless (like some odd ducks I've encountered) they were cranking one out in the shower. At least, I assumed that until I saw what @baraka_guru said above about coming while standing up-- whatever floats ya boat, I guess, but damn if that doesn't sound uncomfortable to me.

    Scientist and humanitarian that I am, I took one for the team last night, at obvious great personal risk.
    I am happy to report that I have survived this harrowing ordeal without loss of life or limb.
    We had sex on the bed, which very closely resembles the sofa.
    I sat as straight upright as possible and Mrs. sat on my lap reverse cow girl style.
    Festivities ensued.
