I can't help coming back to your OP, Strange. The more I consider it, the odder it becomes. To my way of thinking, the idea that Greece should be aided/rescued because of their contribution to democracy sounds like a desperate argument used as a last resort when all reasonable arguments have failed. When in fact, such an argument was always doomed to failure itself by its own irrelevance. Sort of like a defense attorney at a sentencing who implores the court to show leniency to his client who, though he's been convicted of murdering his wife and children, was always kind to his dog.

Why, when there are so many better reasons to pull Greece from the brink, do you consider this to be the best one? Or maybe you don't. Maybe you've offered it simply as another way to look at the situation.

I'm also curious as to how you arrive at the conclusion that those of us who fail to see the relevance of your position have a lower regard for democracy.

You forgot "son of Zeus Amun" in the list of titles... but I dont personally think he really believed in any of that stuff even if he did find it flattering, it was just his way of legitimizing himself.

Regardless, I'm with Joniemack in that your claims are difficult to take seriously. It's the 21st century. Things have changed a bit since the 6th century BCE.

What are they supposed to do?

"Hey, you guys had Plato and his dawg Aristotle right? Here, take an interest-free loan. Will €500 billion work? Wait...you know what? Screw this 'loan' business. Just take it. It's a gift. You can't buy things like The Republic and Politics. We've been taking this stuff for grated this whole time. You know what? Don't think of this as a gift. Think of it as reparations. It's a crime against humanity that we let you guys get this bad. Sorry. It's our fault, really."

  4. And on this isle at the time it was a matriarchy. Womens rights were taken away. Guess that would mean the rest of us could charge out and tear off the testicles of all greek males between four and forty screaming 'Payback!'
