Snakes eat rats and cockroaches. I would rather have a million snakes than a billion rats and roaches.
By keeping the snakes alive, we are keeping the bubonic plague under control.

In the case of the Indian subcontinent, I would prefer to see a per capita figure. They have an enormous population, so it stands to reason there are more deaths related to snakes.

It is not difficult to look up the population of India online and divide one by the other...

The fact of the matter is that snakes deliberately kill humans. They are an enemy species and it is time for mankind to defend itself

I think it's well established on this forum that you are an expert on weapons and hand to hand combat, especially against pitbulls and various ursine species.

What would be the ideal weapon against snakes and is it manufactured in Israel?

Simply place a bounty on them. Ten bucks or local equivalent per dead snake... Globally

You're not taking into account the number of people that are engaging snakes that are trying to get away from them, snake "charmers" and the higher number of venomous snakes in India versus... I don't know, the US or something.

Snakes don't bite humans to kill them... they can't eat them. They bite out of defense when they feel threatened.

There were 118,000 traffic deaths in India in 2008 (latest figure), and they only have 18 vehicles per 1,000 people (2009)! WTF is up with that? That's compared to the U.S.'s 32,885 deaths in 2010, but with 808 cars per 1,000 people (2009).

India should work on that car ban first. It would be more effective in saving lives!

But seriously: over 70% of India's population lives in rural areas (compared to ~15% in the U.S. and ~9% in the U.K.).

    Also realize this:
India lies within the Indomalaya ecozone and contains three biodiversity hotspots. One of 17 megadiverse countries, it hosts 7.6% of all mammalian, 12.6% of all avian, 6.2% of all reptilian, 4.4% of all amphibian, 11.7% of all piscine, and 6.0% of all flowering plant species.

India has both a large rural population and a large geographic area consisting of vastly ecologically diverse regions. Furthermore, it's a tropical and subtropical region. You know, rainforests and deserts and shit.

So when you mix that in with over 740 million people living outside of cities, you're going to get a few snake bites. Well, okay, more than a few.

Yeah, there are far more challenges with regard to human populations than there are with snake populations. Though the recent drop in snake populations is a bit disconcerting, though not so alarming as that of bee populations.

American's may rest easy for now thinking this is only a problem for India or Indonesia, etc

You should know that Burmese pythons are currently INFESTING Florida... and when there are enough of them that they cannot get enough to eat in the swamps, they will come for your dogs and cats, and your children.

Strike them now before they start to choke to death your kids.

A 20 foot Burmese python will absolutely attack something as big as a deer, which thus includes your pets, includes your children, perhaps even your wife. This is not attacks because you cross paths accidentally. They will hunt you. They will break into your houses and suffocate your family in their sleep if they have the chance. For today there is easier prey in the swamps. But tomorrow?

    _

Poisonous snakes also often bite and kill humans not to eat, but simply through an instinct of brute aggression. They simply kill any animal they come across if they have the chance, including a human. If we killed all snakes, other species (like wild cats or dogs) would fill the void in terms of hunting rodents, but these animals do not pose the same kind of threat as a snake.

As I have described before, even a wolf will back down from a human when the human fixes with a stern expression that proves he is the master of the pack. A snake will kill without remorse or reflection or respect for the place of mankind.

    Strange,

It's been made obvious over the last 100 years that Homo sapiens has reached a point of development where it no longer needs to worry about itself and instead needs to look out for everything else. We are quite literally destroying the planet at an alarming rate to further our own petty wants.

Do I want snakes to kill babies? No. But I think we should consider having less babies so the snakes have somewhere to live and other creatures to eat.

Consider watching the classic film Soylent Green, my friend. When there is nothing else left to kill off, we'll have to eat each other.
