Thanks! It's nice to have advice from a "mad old post menopausal woman." I'll suggest evening primrose capsules. My wife isn't big on taking pills, even beneficial OTC herbal ones. She worries about it; I tell her we're not getting any younger (53 & 48) and that's why they make personal lube. I'm guessing that it's somewhat similar to a guy worrying about not getting the 'raging' erections that he used to.

It might also help to look at the lube as something fun. I had to start using lube a few years ago when I switched BC methods to the Mirena. It's not really a big deal--we buy sampler sizes at the sex shop and have fun with it.

What really seems to bother her is when she starts out wet, starts really enjoying sex, then starts getting dry, even when she has multiple orgasms. I think that she gets frustrated when her mind & body are wanting to keep going, but she isn't lubricating. I've tried to explain it's simply a menopause issue, and she knows that, but she still worries.

I don't have an issue with using lube. Stopping to use some lube is no different from switching positions because of cramp, stopping to catch your breath, slowing down to give your sensitive bits a break, etc. And yes, applying lube can be can be fun.

The lube can also help the natural lubrication last.

  5. Rather infrequently over the last year; I can count on two hands the number of times it's happened. Cool by me, gave me room to get other stuff done :p

Most recent time was the Saturday before the new year.

    Definately.

Are there any lubes that are better than others? There are a lot choices out there, especially at the 'adult novelty' stores.

We used the old standby K-Y jelly, and recently started using a store-brand liquid that seems to be just a liquid version of K-Y. K-Y is OK, but it can be a little 'sticky' until things get...moving.

Oh man, there are so many good lubes out there. Like I said, it can be a fun adventure to try them all. We have some silicone toys, so we have both silicone lube and non. Silicone tends to last longer. Here are the highlights:

Silicone based: Wet Platinum (one of our favorites, as it's cheaper than Astroglide X and works just as well, if not better), Liquid Silk (has a tiny touch of silicone; in substance it is the most like natural secretions)
Non-Silicone: System JO--if you go to a Castle Megastore, you can buy a gazillion different kinds of JO in smaller sizes, which is kind of fun. They have a lube called Agape that is glycerin-free, and I love it.

    Snowy, thanks for the list.

My wife isn't a fan of toys, although she did wear out the motor in the soft plastic g-spot vibe, this was a long time back, pre-menopause. I'm not sure why she doesn't care for toys. I can certainly think of many, many creative uses for them, especially if I leave her needing more. I think that the only silicone toy we have is a 'gel' vibe???? The others are rubber, soft plastic, hard plastic.

Sure. As y'all may know, I've been keeping track for years. We used to have a sexless marriage; not any more.

It is! I don't think I've had sex that much over the past two years.
