Well, the thing is I don't compare the two, as I consider one a protein powder and the other a whole food (it's basically ground hemp seeds, like flax). I'm currently adding sprouted brown rice protein to my smoothies too, but I'm not sure I'm going to continue with it. I think I get plenty of protein without it.

I think they're comparing it to cow's milk. They're basically making bean milk taste good. What better way to make something taste good than by adding a bunch of sugar and/or salt to it? Look at the frozen juice section, for instance.

I find my unsweetened soymilk has a natural sweetness to it already. Whenever I drink my SO's low-fat version, it's like I'm drinking a low-fat milkshake.

We're now trying a coconut beverage/almond milk blend to make our smoothies. Yesterday's smoothie was predominantly strawberries and spinach. It was really good! As noodle suggested, if it works in a salad, it works in a smoothie.
