I always feel like I should have something profound to say in these circumstances, and I never do. Phil was a pillar of our community, and he'll be sorely missed. It's not going to be quite the same around here without him. I'm relieved to know that his struggles are over and he can finally be at rest, in whatever form that takes, but I'm also sad to know that he won't be here any longer. The fact that we all knew it was coming seems like it should make it easier, but it doesn't.

We lost one of our own today, and one of the better men to have passed through here. I can't imagine what there is to say past that.

My most sincere condolences to friends and family.

Phil never knew the impact he had on me. He had the ability to make me smile, even during the darkest hours of my life. He, without ever knowing it, gave me hope for a brighter day.

Go well, may your loved ones find the same peace, comfort, and smiles he so generously gave many of us.

I'm so sorry that Phil has passed from our world. And so glad that I was able to know a small part of him. I especially enjoyed his online games, his subtle wordplay, and his warm sense of humor.

I've run through few Requiem and memorial musics today on the stereo and computer.

And I finally "get" all of the Marilyn Monroe references over the years.

Phil and Plan9 were two of my faves and I miss them both.

I could try to come up with something to say now, but he already said it best. He had a knack for doing that. It was a hell of a ride and he was a hell of a guy.

I never had much interaction with him. He pretty much outclassed me in every way, which wouldn't have mattered at all to him. When amazing people die, I'm always struck by the beauty and tenderness that arises as a response to their passing. This thread is beautiful and I think we'd all be lucky to generate half the beauty in dying that has come about in phil's final weeks. He is loved.

While I only knew Phil through posts on here, it is obvious how deeply he touched so many of the lives here. We are all a little less for his passing, but I think it is important to remember to celebrate his life and memory. I hope that the love and support from the TFP community is some consolation and comfort to Marilyn right now.

Rest in Peace Phil, you've earned that.

Phil's Marilyn posted this on the caring bridge site last night, what an awesome thing for him to do.
