Phil's Marilyn, hankster - I give you my condolences and urge you to remain here. Because you've been through the mill and you're going through the mill, and I wish you strength, and with your presence and permission, would like to be among those who support your strength and begin to continue getting to know you. Same goes for those TFPers who have shared history with him, I am so sorry.

uncle phil, I've got to know you better when you were unable to post for yourself than when you were present. I am very sad about that, and wish you Peaceful Rest.

My sincere condolences to Marilyn, Hankster and all who knew and loved Phil. I am going through this hell with my father and all we can hope for is that our loved one knows how much we tried to show our love. In some ways, then end gives a new beginning. In our rides to the doctors, in visits in the hospital, we remember things we may have otherwise forgotten. We learn about each other, finding out things we perhaps would never have touched upon had things been "normal". We express love and verbalize gratitude. To Marilyn, I wish you peace.

    Dear Friends,

This will probably be my shortest update and yet the hardest. Phil passed away early this morning. His passing was peaceful.

I will follow up in a day or so with information on our plans for a greeting friends and family in NY and FL. When complete, I will forward a copy of his obituary as most of you do not subscribe to the Tampa Bay Times or the Binghamton Press & Sun-Bulletin.

Thank you all for your overwhelming outpouring of support and encouragement these past 6 months. I can’t thank you enough for the help you have given me.

About a week ago, Phil came to terms with his mortality. That was the day he called his mother to tell her he loved her. He also called a number of close friends, like Hank, to say good bye. This was the beginning of his withdrawal from social contact as he prepared himself for the end. A couple of nights later, just after 3 AM, he woke me up and said he was going to die in 30 minutes. He then started telling me all the things he wanted me to do after his death. Obviously he made it past the 30 minutes (kept looking at the clock) and was surprised the next morning to wake up and find himself at home.

One thing he asked me to do was to post something for you all on the TFP after his death. That next morning I asked him if he still wanted me to post it and if I should do it right away or wait as he had instructed. He said to wait. These were his words for you: "It was a hell of a ride".

It's good to know that Phil was ready. These inevitable times come with so much heartache and loss, but it helps to know that Phil was at peace. I hope you realize, Marilyn, how lucky Phil was to have you there, for him to know that you were right there beside him to talk to. I really like knowing that. And even knowing Phil through this wide expanse of internet space, it seems totally like him to show so much strength and character when he thought the end was close. Thank you for coming back to update us.
