I get email alerts when she posts an update. There hasn't been any this week thus far. But we all know that he is in good hands with Marilyn and hospice folks. She said in her last post he isn't in any pain. She has great love for Uncle Phil in her words.

I took the liberty to copy the latest update on Caring Bridge and paste it in here. Here's hoping Marilyn is fine with that.

There's a picture of Phil and family as part of this Journal entry, but I won't post it up in here until I get permission from Marilyn to do so.

EDIT: I was pretty occupied all day today and completely forgot to remove the full names and exact locations of the people mentioned in the entry. Sorry.

Got permission from Marilyn. Here's a short message from her and the picture mentioned in the Journal Update quoted above.

At this point, I can only pray it will be as painless as possible.

    Dear Friends,

I wanted to send you a quick update to let you know that Phil is resting comfortably and is free of pain. His hospice team comes every day now to make sure he has everything he needs to be comfortable. They have been wonderful.

When I started sending out these updates in March, both Phil and I knew he could not win the war. But he was determine to fight and win as many battles as he could. I was determined to be there, by his side, to fight the fight. Together, with support from all of you, we remained hopeful for small wins. I have always tried to find something positive to report on, no matter how small. Now that we near the end of the journey I realize there isn’t much of anything positive that can be said about the end stage of lung cancer. It is a sad story. There is no happy ending.

That being said, I want you to share with you something positive and fun. In spite of what has been happening to us we are constantly reminded of the wonderful times we have had together and that we have shared with so many of you. Our friend Andrew Perry sent a note the other day with just such an example. Reading it brought smiles to Phil and me and a rush of other fond memories from our Mediterranean cruise. Here is what Andrew wrote:

Andy Perry here... you tell Phil for me that I will never forget the night in the bar on the cruise, singing Tom Jones songs...embarrassing the shit out of ourselves... what’s new pussycat, whoa a whoa whoa whoa whoa... I always think about that night every time I hear those songs one of the great memories of my life. Tell Phil I miss him... and tell him I think he's a great guy,,,

Thanks, Andrew (or as Phil refers to you, “big guy”) for remembering this and sharing it with us. It made our day. I hope sharing it with others will bring a smile to them and encourage them to send us their fond memories as well.

Thanks to all of you for the support you continue to show us. I don’t know how we could have made it this far without all the prayers and positive thoughts you all have sent our way.

    Marilyn

OK. I keep seeing the photo of Phil as the TP bride. Is there a story that goes with the photo that we can post on his CaringBridge webpage? Can I get the photo to put on CaringBridge? I think the photo and story are worth sharing.

    Thanks.

Marilyn, that was at my wedding shower at the Rochester get together the summer of 2005.

Several of the TFP gang took me out sight seeing for the day, to get me out of the house (it was a surprise shower) for the day. Amonkie had arranged to have Paddy Joe and Phil compete in the "toilet wedding paper dress" game, where each team had to design a dress out of TP and PJ and Phil were the models lol It was one of the funniest moments EVER, the bad part was they made me pick just one of them as the winner, and let me tell you it was REALLY hard, but alas I thought Phil looked too much like a monk, and PJ used one of my chokers as an accessory, so I chose him.

I will be glad to email you the pictures, should I use the email address you sent me the caring bridge link from? I would be most honored if you used them.
