  8. Well, I think these actors and actresses are just too lazy. Surely if they were prepared to work a reasonable 16hrs a day, we would not be having to wait almost a year for our next series to come out.
The added benefits of having them work longer hours are not just from a selfish perspective - if it takes too long to complete, many of the younger actors/actresses will reach puberty whilst still playing younger children - it could become Glee with broadswords. Some characters may be forced to 'go on holiday' - and upon return may be so altered by the experience that views may not recognize them - as with Miss Ellie at Southfork.

I'm tired of reading comments along the lines of "Worst finale ever! Especially compared to Episode 9! LOL! Lame."

It's as though they haven't experienced a dénouement before, or the natural shifts in narrative arcs for a long ongoing story divided by both episodes and seasons.

I suspect these people haven't read the books.

I also suspect these people don't read books.

People got used to finales being cliff hangers... as opposed to an end of a season.

    Yes, because...
Asha Greyjoy sailing and marching up to the doorstep of the Dreadfort to retrieve her now-gelded brother, Theon; Jamie returning to Cersei, with one less body part of his own; Maester Aemon alerting the entire realm of the attack of the White Walkers; Jon returning to Castle Black after escaping the clutches of the Wildlings; Stannis raising an army to defend "his" realm against its greatest threat; and Daenerys becoming the "mhysa" of Yunkai
...isn't enough for people to chew on?

    No excuses.

I know it's oldies that like Ep. 2, where there was leaving the dock to go find Han. Seeing Luke testing out his new hand.

Today's season finale has to be some cliff hanger to make you want to wait until next season. Look at what the list is like... very epic endings that have not space for any more telling tale until the next season.

I can't post this on FaceySpace, 'cause not all my friends are caught up yet. But I laughed. A lot.

Cliffhangers need to be handled carefully, otherwise they come across as cheap tricks.

From what I understand, a prime example is Dan Brown, where he drops a cliffhanger at the end of nearly every goddamn short chapter.

    It keeps you reading.

But it's a trick. You can't help but want to know what happens next.

Satisfactory narratives have ebbs and flows. Even with a serial structure, you can have a phase ending (i.e. a season) with some resolutions but with some foreshadowing.

Foreshadowing is often better employed that cheap cliffhangers.

I think that many production money collection folks, those in production management are keen on the cliffhanger because they see it as a direct correlation as opposed to foreshadowing which brings a little need for intelligence from the viewer.

Oh, God forbid we should do something different...

Wasn't that what horror movies were about back when they weren't a formula??
Keep'em guessing...Keep'em on the edge of their seats.

It's amazing what people get upset at.

    I say, keep it coming.

Screw the bean counters...there are other ways of making a profit.
    Let's hear it for HBO.

I'm hoping that others will start to follow the same line of thought.

I would probably get farther just watching the tv series. The book is not bad but has not held my interest that much so far. Last thing I remember reading that Ned fellow found out that the king had a bastard son working as an apprentice and that somebody important recently died investigating this.
Reality tells me that lack of HBO and the DVDs means that I will eventually finish book 1 and leave the story there for who knows how long unless my interest skyrockets for some reason.
