This is a unique recap, not just of episode 301 but scenes that tie Arya, Jaime and Brienne's season 2 story to the what I'm guessing will be in episode #2--and it's close-captioned.

I have to say I'm a bit confused by the skipping around HBO has done so far this season. Yes, it is only two episodes in and knowing what should/has happened according to the books does skew things so perhaps it is only me. I read too much to remember the timelines correctly - especially when the last two I read were worse than Tolstoy.

There are some things I wish they would have at least touched on so you could get a better sense of relations and allegiances.

I can understand that they need to move things along a certain timeline. Things got... murky in the books.
Theon being gone two books, then reappearing as Reek and how a lot of Highgarden's power plays were behind the scenes
, so everything seems kinda off. I think they will do well with the whole mess.

I kinda like the simplicity of how they threw Jojen and Meera into the mix. I also never noticed that out of that party, the women are the fighters and protectors. Never really thought about it.

I also love watching Theon being tortured. It makes me happy.

Well I'm glad they didn't stick to the timelines of the books to the letter. As I said before, I can skip over Dany's frustrations that never fucking end. However, I think what was the quirkiest for me was it seemed as though they sped up Bran while leaving others in the same place. Granted it has been a while since I read the books but being as how Martin didn't actually skip 5 years as originally planned, I'm curious if HBO said "You know what? This shit is so goddamn repetitive. Fuck yo' shit. We movin' on." It's a good thing mostly, but I wasn't expecting it so quickly.

The introduction of Jojen & Meera was spot on. Now let's just hope we don't have to watch Bran getting shit explained every 5 minutes.

As far as Theon goes - well he'd make great bedfellows with the dick slayer. They're both bitches & would give Renly & Loras a good run for their gold stags.

I'm actually kinda disappointed with how Loras was depicted throughout. He was pretty badass to start with but HBO went a little overboard on the flower thing.

You know what would be epic?

Margaery & Dany gettin' it on Baratheon style. :D

  9. This show is pissing me off. Usually I watch series one season at a time, but since this is the best thing on television right now, I'm watching it week to week. I hate waiting for the next one with a fiery burning passion. :)

Jamie is one of my favorite characters. He starts out a royal asshole but then redeems himself over the course of the novels. It all starts with Brienne.

What he endures being the "kingslayer" when he saved the lives of all of King's Landing, that's some heavy shit to hold.

Yes...but he still did his sister...eeewww.

Still a good example of how one person is not all good or evil...but spottled shades of both, with intermittent changes throughout life.
That's what I think the whole saga is about, how you can never judge a book by it's cover. And to expect the unexpected. And how do you define good & evil...

    Until the 4th book.

Then it's just about tit size and redundancy.

I'm good with the tits... but make it exciting puhlease.

I've not read books 4 and 5 for precisely the reason cited by Glory's Sun and others. In re: the HBO show, we were told that book 3 would be broken up into two seasons, which was fine by me.
However last night, I read the extended synopses for episodes 3.06 -3.08 which, from the comments I've seen, include some aspects of book 4(!?) I'm totally WTF-ing. Do I need to read book 4 now to know what people are talking about when they compare the characters and sequence of events in the books v. the TV series?

    Here are the (HBO) synopses:

    Episode 3.06 – 'The Climb'
Tywin plans strategic unions for the Lannisters. Melisandre pays a visit to the Riverlands. Robb weighs a compromise to repair his alliance with House Frey. Roose Bolton decides what to do with Jaime Lannister. Jon, Ygritte and the Wildlings face a daunting climb. (Written by David Benioff & D. B. Weiss; directed by Alik Sakharov.)
Episode 3.07 – 'The Bear and the Maiden Fair'
Dany exchanges gifts with a slave lord outside of Yunkai. As Sansa frets about her prospects, Shae chafes at Tyrion’s new situation. Tywin counsels the king, and Melisandre reveals a secret to Gendry. Brienne faces a formidable foe in Harrenhal. (Written by George R. R. Martin; directed by Michelle MacLaren.)
    Episode 3.08 – 'Second Sons'
King’s Landing hosts a wedding, and Tyrion and Sansa spend the night together. Dany meets the Titan’s Bastard. Davos demands proof from Melisandre. Sam and Gilly meet an older gentleman. (Written by David Benioff & D. B. Weiss; directed by Michelle MacLaren.)

Fangirl - It seems as though all the seasons so far have had a mixture of books instead of each season following the corresponding book number. I think they have to do it this way b/c Martin is so goddamn long winded that they have to leave out even some of the good back-stories or we'd be subjected to mind-numbing boredom. Imagine if they were to keep Dany & Cersei letter by letter... those two would fill 10 seasons alone, except they'd have shit ratings.

As far as your question goes, you can certainly read the book, but I think you'll be just fine without it considering how bad it is compared to the first trilogy. I don't think you'll miss too much that you can't pick up naturally from the series.

/enter Lordeden a.k.a. superGOTfanboi to blast me for talking bad about Martin :p
