He is accually doing a great job as the closer for the series. I really like the two books he wrote for the series, he's like Jordan Sans uneeded fluff. He's telling a story, not talking about one scene from 5 different points of view for 12 chapters. Read his mistborn series, Cinn and I love it. I really like the way he used magic in the world.

    *****

I finally finished the series (I stopped watching when I realized the reeds wouldn't be in it) and I did enjoy it. For what they did, the battle of blackwater was good. I *LOVE* the scenes between Arya and my favorite bad ass mother fucker Tywin Lannister. Tywin is no one's fool, he knows Arya isn't some street rat that can read, he just doesn't know HOW important she is. I love they are fleshing out Tywin's character more than in the books.

Also, Brienne the Beauty is everything I thought she would be.

PS. Seeing tonks naked was awesome. Makes watching harry potter more interesting.

I'll admit when this series first came out I was rather "meh" towards it. My wife was enjoying it and I found myself liking it as the show progressed. It's not in the same league of awesomeness as Boardwalk Empire but for an enjoyable story it fits the bill. The only thing I don't like about it is that they don't develop the characters as much as I'd like. They've done an adequate job of it, but I'm one of those who thrive on actual connections to a character or group.

and to answer the question from aabbccbbaa2 it takes so long because you not only have a book that needs to be adapted for a series, but you have to film, edit the film, post the film, schedule the showings, press them, hype them, set up investors etc etc etc. Television series have moved into a realm of production that puts hollywood to shame in the sense of scale and time. I'll put it this way, if a show is on average an hour long, you can bet there was at least 10 hours of footage an editor had to cut in order to get that show to final production. So THAT's why it takes so long. ;)

If only I could get a series based on the Gunslinger novels from Stephen King I'd be good to go.

  5. Have avoided this thread and will not be reading back. Just spent the last two days glued to Game of Thrones - have two episodes left out of series 2. Like the last of a bottle of rum, I shall miss it when its finished, and will doubtless happily welcome the next series/bottle. Some good names and good actors in it.

I was thinking about it the other day, and aside from wanting the usual baddies to die in the show, I also wouldn't mind if most of the Starks also bit the dust. They're just so darn boring.

The Walking Dead season finale is also 3/31/13, that night I'm going to have a massive tv-gasm the likes of which have never been seen before.

Game of Thrones - Season 3 to be super-sized

The Game of Thrones team is creating a “super-sized” third season of the hit series.

With showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss tackling content from the first half (roughly) of author George R.R. Martin’s largest Song of Ice and Fire novel (the 973-page fan-favorite A Storm of Swords), the writer-producer duo are delivering slightly longer episodes to the network. There’s still 10, but you’ll get a little more each week than previous seasons.

“There’s almost another full episode’s worth of extra minutes spread across the season,” Weiss says. “One of the great liberties with HBO is we’re not forced to come in at a specific time. We can’t be under 50 minutes or over 60, but that gives us a lot of flexibility.”

“A super-sized season, as befitting Storm of Swords,” Benioff adds. “Last year we had a lot of 52-minute episodes. This year is a lot of 56, 57.”

I actually don't know what to say about this.
Issac ('Bran') sounds much older than in season 2?
