Was it for the opportunity to spend life and treasure, then rebuild a country to a higher standard than they were previously accustomed, then when they are marginally able to handle things themselves be asked to leave, rather stongly, so that in the long run we get to wait and see how the OIL thing shakes out?

The Democrats did it becausse they know the cyclical nature of politics and knew they woud come back to power in a few years. They knew that if they masterminded the attack the Republicans would spring into action and go after the villians, so they threw a wrench in the works at key points to make it LOOK like the Republicans reacted improperly, By improperly I mean instead of initiating a police action to find and arrest/destroy the people who did this (at least the people the Dems blamed) they invaded a country that had nothing to do with the attack under the guise of some Kevin Baconesque connection. So that later when they came into power again and we sheeple elected some charismatic history making game changing Black guy. He would APPEAR to reengage the world on our behalf, the world would APPEAR to look to us again for leadershhip and direction.

We did all this as a means to raise the price of oil we have limited access to because we want these new "Democracies" to APPEAR independent of us.
so now with highter oil prices those guys who started this whole thing are 1.3billion dollars richer

It's all becoming clear now.

I see politicians - left or right - as being different cheeks on the same arse. They are, after all, narcissists whose
particular mental illness compels them to try and control people and events around them,
no matter what 'brand' they are wearing.

As for 9/11 being an inside job - I don't know and probably never will, though the bureaucrats were amazingly quick to bring in new laws
designed to control 'we the people' and new govt. agencies to leech off the public teat (TSA, Homeland Security).
(The only time bureacrats seem to move quickly is when they are giving themselves pay rises and new/better benefits
or giving themselves more control over you mere mortals)

Dude, it's been 10 years. Give it a rest. To claim the government is corrupt and incompetent in one breath but that thousands of government workers could keep this "inside job" a secret in the next is just preposterous.
