It was nice back when this was the biggest issue that people were arguing about on the internet... There are so many other issues that are more important to worry about now that I don't care if people fat shame or not.

Been following this thread and reading it, and several times have wanted to say something. The words just are not ever there.

I clicked the link too Ralphie.

One of my grandmother's is anorexic and when I was age 9 she and I wore the same size clothing. I was a tiny skinny kid, that suffered a lot of abuse, got fat to ward off the world, then skinny, etc. When I was at my heaviest much of my family fat shamed me. Now I'm a mid-sized female and could stand to lose 15 pounds. I'm working on it, but avoid anyone who pressures one way or another.

In my opinion fat shaming is a symptom of a society that thinks everyone should conform. There are ways to help others learn to make healthier choices and find other ways to comfort themselves, but they also take more consideration and effort. The only real way to change this issue is to care about others, to be empathetic, and to realize that cruelty never solves problems.

Low fat high carb diets. The only thing worse is a high carb high fat diet.

Carbs are basically sugar. Sugar drives insulin. Insulin put excess fuel into the fat cells and slams the door.

A few weeks ago I was out with a bunch of my contemporaries in my little home town. Almost all of my cohort were overweight. One of my friends looked at my plate and wondered how I could eat like I do (green salad, ribeye, squash and asparagus) (was I being shamed for eating a big slab of meat?) and not be fat. My friend was having spaghetti, red sauce, and breadsticks. Another friend said "Lindy's just like her mom. Fat just doesn't stick to her."

There may be something to our shared genetic heritage, but a lot is in what Mom and I don't eat:
    Breadsticks
    French Fries
Breaded and fried foods in general -- only rarely
    White bread, rolls, buns, etc.
    White rice
    Donuts
    Sugared Cereals
    Full sugar soda
    Cake and frosting

Even some folks on here, when they want to "lose a few" talk about a low carb diet.

    Everything here is true.

You need fat/carbs/protein and a healthy balance of all of them. Now I'm on a high carb/high protein diet, but I cut well on this diet. Other people do not. I think this is the biggest problem when it comes to diets for people. They think you have to cut out everything good to eat within their macros for weight loss. Beth/Sally/Lisa in the cube next to me did this one diet and she lost a ton of weight. Well what worked for her might not work for you. It's a lot of trial and error, which people don't want.

I've gotten baked, been hungry, ate my last meal of the day and sat beside a grill while a neighbor was BBQing. Was I hungry? Yes, he could hear my stomach over the radio. Was I going to eat? No, because I had goals. Not many people can stand to be hungry or snack on veggies.

    EAT ALL THE SUGAR.

[EDIT] I just saw my favorite food was on that list and I need to say something. STAY AWAY FROM MY FRENCH FRIES, DEVIL WOMAN. That is all.

Not the greatest source, but this puts it in layman's terms.

Maybe I'm confused here but I thought fat shaming was the main topic in this thread. Shaming is cruel, unkind, and does damage to those that are its victims. The thread quite seems to have turned into weight loss and workout tips, which while great seems to be beside the point.

  9. Because people are uncomfortable with "fatness" and they want to "help" people.

I've been a fatass and a skinny chick and received criticism for both choices. I was unhealthy in both scenarios. I'm considered overweight by many people. I need to tighten up, but otherwise, I'm happy with what my body looks like now. I try not to shame, but I'm still human and there are people who are making terribly unhealthy choices and teaching their kids to do the same that just make me bite my tongue until it bleeds. We're human, we judge, but it's the external expression where people need to handle their filters better.

People are going to criticize and shame no matter WHAT you are...even a supermodel. (and they get it from their own peeps and work associates, constantly)
    Fuck 'em
People should do whatever for themselves and for health reasons.

Others are selfish, biased or just plain in a mood...and spout shit coming from their mouths.
The Web has just recorded it...they used to do it without being seen. SSDD.
