I like that my money, and any premium they charge over the store, is going directly to the farmer.

Next week will be the last for the season at the market my parents have been working. Dropped $5.50/lb on grass-fed ground beef and $2.50 on 2 lb of popping corn. That's a damn sight better than I'd pay at the supermarket. And I'm just not sure how I'm going to get through the winter without my raw honey.
Meh. I can still pick that up at Nature's Pharm, I suppose.

I just got back from a trip to NYC, having stayed in a hotel just off Union Square.
Union Square hosts a huge farm market and I had never been to it before.
Interesting experience for me because most of the people selling there come from my county or the surrounding counties.
It's about a 4 hour trip for them to truck their goods down there.
The prices are definitely higher in Manhattan than we pay for the same goods in our local farm market but that's to be expected. I don't know how much "extra" the farmers have to make in a day to make it worth all that travel time and expense but it has to be a considerable amount.
I was glad to see the market packed with shoppers and business looked brisk. That's probably the biggest source of hope for maintaining the farms we have in upstate NY.
