Fantasy Football 2015

Discussion in 'General Discussions' started by grumpyolddude, Aug 16, 2015.

  1. One game in and I sense monster among us. His Beefiness, Giant Hamburger may have assembled a juggernaut.

Picking 8th, one spot ahead of me, he drafted right off the top of my queue: The Gronk. He then added Brady, Megatron and B. Marshall (away from Cutler, will he fly or fail?). While so many pundits and pre-draft rankings were promoting ground-n-pound, GH has built an air force that could rule the sky, and with it, the league.

Take a peek at what he laid on me last night: Brady 35, Gronk 32 (on only 5 catches!). That's 67 points before any of my squad has played a down. Not only did he beat me TO Gronk, he's beating me to steak tartare WITH Gronk. And he's gonna score a double dip with every Brady-to-Gronk connection all season long.

Desperate to find points, I find myself abandoning the safe, steady Russell Wilson and rolling the dice with a Stafford-to-Tate and/or Abdullah parlay. Hey, the rookie's got skills and Tate reaps the benefits of any Megatron double-team. Plus, I can glean a few points from whatever Calvin accomplishes. Plus, I have to hope that Dez, LFitz and Demarco Murray turn in prime performances (I'm counting on Miami's D to feast on the corpse that is the Washington offense). I have a tough, uphill battle this weekend.

Well done, GH (you glorious bastard!).

I'm just interested to see what tomorrow's games hold in store. I picked atl defense cause they have a new had coach and he is a defense guy, it is either a good decision, or a really bad one

  3. Weird. Overnight, 5 teams in the league have scored 20 phantom points each, mine among them. Then, a minute ago...poof! The points are gone and things look normal again. Internet gremlins, I guess.
edit/ Stat tracker shows a +20 for starting defenses. Mystery no more!

I'm missing the in-game smack talk feature. We've never overused it, but it was nice when a little back-and-forth did happen.

Almost game time. Time to either totally panic or press forward with confidence.

I see many ads on TV for FFLs that appear to be 'gambling' leagues. Can someone tell me more about them? How they work? Does real money change hands, electronically speaking? Are they legal? Etc.

Are you talking about the daily fantasy leagues?

You basically pick a fantasy team for one day or one week. There are leagues you can enter that are very small (10 people) or very large (1000s of people). You can do leagues that cost very little ($1) or hundreds of times that. I believe most of them are auction-style. So you get a set budget to build your team, players are given a set cost based on expected performance, and you assemble the best team your budget allows. After that day/week, the winner(s) get the money and the league is over. Some very serious people (doing their own analytics, creating complex spreadsheets for predictions, etc.) are making serious money doing it. But at the end of the day it comes down to who overperforms their expected output, and what guy picked those players.

So yes, there is real money involved. You deposit funds with the site. The site pays out after the contest is over.

Right now my understanding is that they aren't legally considered gambling, though in reality they seem to be to me. So since the law isn't classifying them as gambling, they are legal.

Yes, you described the FFLs I was wondering about. My thoughts are since money isn't bet on actual games, just the accumulations of stats, it's not considered gambling.

Prop bets are based on the accumulation of stats too. They are legally considered gambling.

I honestly think the politicians will get their finger in the pie before too long.

  17. Finally getting my expected production from D. Murray and D. Martin. I need it because P. Harvin choked on his measly 4 targets and R. Wilson disappointed this week. Need Fitz and Golden to produce!
