    Condoms & spermacidal gel when my wife & I were dating. I don't mean the condoms that were packaged in the gel, we tried them a couple of times and the gel would irritate my urethea. When she went on the pill to help contol her menstrual cycle, we still used condoms as well.

    We were in college. Pregnancy would've complicated things.

    This actually, is the correct answer for a couple that wishes to be truly protected from pregnancy (sans sterilization) and STD's. At a minimum, a condom and spermicide--cap or diaphragm is good further precaution from pregnancy.

    My BC history is past-tense. Birth control pill/condoms/diaphragm/spermicide combos beginning at age 16. Got married, no BC. Got pregnant. (Cart after horse, got tested for STDs.) Divorced, birth control pills/condoms/spermicide. Got into a committed relationship. Got drunk and careless on my birthday (thought he was wearing a condom/he wasn't), got pregnant. Cart after horse again--got tested for STD's. One week after I gave birth, he got a vasectomy. Used condoms until we didn't need to (I can't recall --3 months?). Exclusive partners ever since.

    We got Sex Ed in Grades 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 11, plus a crash course in birth control and STD prevention during college freshman orientation. Somewhere along the way, I guess the info sunk in.

    Most of the time it is The Pill for us. On occasion when she is on an antibiotic or something we double up with a condom or 'spray and pray'.

    Best thing that happened to our sex life was the wife getting snipped after #3.
    No worries. It's a free for all now!

    I have a Mirena. It's awesome. Seriously. I don't get periods any more, and I love it. The birth control aspect is just another benefit, really. We stopped using condoms after I got the Mirena, since it didn't seem necessary at that point.
