I do live somewhere awesome, but how much of that is luck, rather than good management? What I like most is that I live in a community - we as a family know lots of local people because of school, sporting clubs, scouts, church etc. and it is the people that make a place worth living. I have nice, friendly neighbours (for the most part) and those that aren't are quiet and keep to themselves. We have pretty good weather, lots of trees, easy access to bushwalking, not too far from the beach (though that one is for Mrs Spindles - I can take or leave the beach - mostly leave actually). Our children go to a good, well run, public school.

I've lived in the same state my whole life (not that surprising when it is a 7 hour drive to the closest border). I do take pride when my state/country does something good or when we are competing on the world stage. I also cringe at the infantile way my politicians carry on.

Also, I'm with ZS - here is the dessert:

No pride or identification...but I do enjoy the "flavor" of the Northeast Coastal US and the culture and nature around it.

My definition of NE Coastal is the line of states on the Atlantic from Massachusetts to Virginia.

There are strengths to every region and I love traveling.
And there are some aspects to San Diego I liked...and I enjoyed my time in Oklahoma too.

But I found I ended up missing the little things of this area when I went away.

Now, does this mean I won't find elsewhere to ponder the imponderables? Not at all. (I was considering looking about Northern Portugal some time, believe it or not)

It's a wonderful world...and there are many places that hit you in the right spot.
And you never know which...if you're open to it.

Yesterday, someone at Costco had abandoned a Baby Loaf in the cooler where they sell this bad boy.

As much as I've come to love my adopted home state of Maryland, I am and always will be a New Yorker.

I'm a southern belle, through and through. Georgia (Atlanta, specifically) has always been and will always be where I'm from.

I've lived in other states, but the draw to Atlanta is fierce and I don't stay away too long. And I'm perfectly fine with that.

I prefer the extra sharp white variety. If I'm gonna indulge myself with fat and calories, I'll go all the way ( I feel the same about dark chocolate)

I don't think I've ever seen extra sharp white cheddar. Sounds yummy.

I love extra sharp white cheddar. The Trader Joe's near me carries a nice Welsh cheddar that's around a year old, and every now and again they get in five year old cheddar. But better than that, when we road trip around Wisconsin, Michigan, and Indiana, we often find small creameries and local cheesemakers who sell white cheddar that has been aged six, eight, sometimes even ten years. It's glorious. Absolutely glorious.

I was going to say a bit more about this too. A lot of "extra sharp" white cheddar you commonly find in grocery stores is maybe one or two years old. Large-format grocery stores, specialty stores, gourmet stores, etc., should also carry that five-year-old stuff and above.

For the uninitiated: If you're going with five years or above, be prepared to pucker up.

    Don't worry. It's delightful.

I don't particularly identify with where I've lived most of my life (North Carolina, central and eastern part). I tend to like rural areas, but I've liked them no matter where they were. Not being all that social probably helps in my lack of geographic identity.

Well, if this is going to be about cheese.
Sartori from Wisconsin makes one that is absolutely amazing.
    It's called Espresso BelleVitano.
I can eat a wheel of the stuff and want more.
It will solve your coffee and cheese craving at the same time.
