I have. I've also read the first three Dexter novels.
I just wish they'd target Rick and Jeb... they deserve to meet the Bay Harbor Butcher.

    aaaaaand, end threadjack.

I'm glad I voted. Even though I disagreed with half of what each of the candidates stood for. It was a really difficult choice.

Grancey and I voted in our new polling location yesterday (a large motel) when I got home from work. We had to walk up three different flights of stairs, even though we only got as high as the second floor, and every set of stairs we ascended was jammed with other people descending back down after their voting was completed. But it wasn't a "stand in line" stair experience - both sets of coming and going folks were flying fairly rapidly, so it was a little surreal. I felt like we were part of a living MC Escher print, where everybody ascends and descends simultaneously, but never gets anywhere.

The only time we had to stop was when we reached the check-in table. There were several tables divided by first letter of the last name, so the "A-B" line was ridiculously long while the "C-D" line was totally empty. Each remaining table had a similar situation going, where one poll worker was nearly frantic while her tablemate was bored out of her mind. We were handed our ballots, we sat at one of the tables provided, and we colored in the broken arrows. In addition to the national and local races, Alabama also had 11 constitutional amendments to decide, and that was the longest part of the whole experience.

After shoving our ballots into the scanner and getting the "I Voted" stickers, we joined the conveyor belt of people going back down the stairs, and suddenly, we were out. We celebrated by going to Shakey's Pizza.

    One last thought.

Regardless of how you vote, we should all be as fortunate as Snowy. Oregon is an example of “good government” in so many ways, particularly the vote by mail process where “turnout” is among the highest in the country. I hope we'll see it across the country in the near future, but I doubt it.

Doesn't Oregon usually have the highest turn out on election day?

i like this idea. being able to sit down and go through each candidate at your leisure would be a good thing. all the absentee, provisional, email voting, polling place voting, could all be condessed into old fashion snail mail with a lot less headache and fraud it seems.

i just hope they would go to an open area like the courhouse to be counted and filmed to insure integrity, and not some backroom(which is essentially what i feel the electronic machines are like.)

Vote-by-mail is great. My county was fully counted 1.5 hours after the polls closed. The law states that votes can be counted up to a week before the election.

samcol the counties use Scantron-type machines, and it is a process that is generally openly observable and filmed. People turning in ballots have a choice of either taking their ballot to a drop box or mailing it in. We typically choose to put ours in a drop box. The drop boxes are plentiful and readily available in many public places. On this website: Welcome to ORESTAR ! I can check whether my ballot was received. It's a pretty slick process, and we have it down to an art. I definitely like that I can see whether my ballot was received and counted.
