Day Off Rituals

A "day off" right now means a day with no class, but plenty of studying to do. So I try to do that. Having a full day off usually means spending at least half of it on campus so I can concentrate on my studying without the distraction of being at home.

Otherwise, I try to throw in some exercise (long bike ride or long run? Yes please!), some yummy cooking, tending to any chores that have been overlooked for a few days, and maybe even watching a movie. I don't take the time to watch movies often, so last night's watching 2 (although they were quite short) on Netflix instant while I tried to read some pharmacology notes was a rare treat for me.

A bigger-than-usual breakfast is always on the list on a day off, though.

 

No shaving on days off. It's not much; but at least I feel as though I got away with something.

 

A day off usually involves waking up at 6am because my body is used to waking up for work at that time. So, this is what usually happens: I eat breakfast, drink coffee, surf the net, work out (run a few miles or lift weights), watch movies/tv shows, play a game and read a book. Not at the same time.

 

My day off is always Sunday. We always sleep in. Make a pot of tea . A big Breakfast. And I stay in my pj's all day. I will not leave my house for love or money. And I spend my time on the pc or watching TV and telling my GS to entertain himself.

 

I have two children under four. I have no days off.

Back before the kids arrived, when I had a day off, I would usually sleep until somewhere between 11am and 1pm, depending on how late I'd been up the night before, and how early I had to get up the morning following my day off. Hang out in my underwear. Make a leisurely brunch. Have a nooner with Mrs. Levite. Or, if she were unavailable that day, crank one out myself.

When we lived in Venice, I'd often spend my days off by the pool, or on the beach. Once we moved, I'd usually go someplace air conditioned/heated (depending on season)-- maybe catch a movie. Or stay home, just flaked out and reading, pet the dog a lot. Cook dinner if I felt like it. Order in if I didn't-- preferably Chinese, which is my favorite. Spend a relaxing evening with Mrs. Levite, have some wine or make us some drinks, smoke a bowl, maybe chat on the phone with some friends (all of whom now also have small children and have no days off anymore, either).

 

My day off has changed from my previous post.

Sunday I sleep in as no clients are working at their main sites on sunday (some VPN users but unless it's critical they call me on monday). I wake up, take my first round of supps and head to the local dinner for my only cheat meal of the week. Eggs, Bacon, small amount of grits. Then I go to the store and buy my food for the week. Then I start Sunday Meal Prep. I eat the same thing every week, so I cook everything on sunday then put it in tupperware for each meal.

I grill my protein while rice cooks in the rice cooker. Once everything is cooked, I put it in the fridge to cool down. Then I prep everything and portion it by weight. I try and clean up so I start the week in a clean kitchen.

Sunday is my only non-gym day, so I'm usually sore as shit on sunday. Try not to move to much.

I start laundry and usually get baked. Youtube/interwebs til I go to bed.

 

Wouldn't call it a ritual, however Sandy and I enjoy sex in the morning. She has been spending the night on Saturday, this last Sunday morning I was awoke with her mouth on my penis. What a wonderful woman. She took me to the edge and it was great. When we finished we slept another 2 hours. I certainly appreciate her.

 

Just about every Sunday I hit the Vinyl Road with my friend where we get brunch and go looking in the bins of second hand stores for used records.
Most of the time it doesn't result in to much but sometimes we get lucky and often there is new stuff coming out to add to the collection.
