Finding Chlorox or similar bleach-based cleaners is nearly impossible around here.

Earlier today my wife suggested we double check one of the top shelves where we store large containers of various cleaners. Pleasant surprise, we found a very nearly full gallon of Chlorox
    cleaner.

The National Guard has the power to seize and remove medical supplies from medical facilities, and redistribute them to facilities that need them.

This sounds fair under the circumstances, but...the people who had the foresight to stock up could be forced to supply those who didn't.

US companies making PPE have been ordered to ignore existing orders from foreign countries in order to supply the US.

Again sounds like the right action to take under the circumstances...but we're telling countries with no manufacturing capacity TFB.

It looks from the outside like the US has a bit of a "each state for themselves" mentality. While Oz has a little of that (different rules for different states), there has been a coordinated national effort, so that each state is supportive of the others. Our government has also suggested the lockdowns now in place could go on for months.

Here part of the response has been to start fining people who leave their home without a reasonable reason - those being:
    • going to/from work
    • going shopping for essential supplies
    • going locally for exercise, while practicing social distancing
    • seeking medical attention
There are certainly less people out and about and the only "busy" places are supermarkets. Basically, any non-local travel is likely to result in a police response.

Thankfully, we have access from our place to decent local parks (though play and exercise equipment are "closed") and bushwalks etc. and are allowed out as a family group for exercise.

It is difficult and you do see especially younger people flouting the laws, but there is a need for doing this. This virus seems to be quite contagious and quite deadly. Surely losing some short term personal freedom is ok for the greater good?

The D-Day reference is very appropriate.

I always thought it was crazy the little amount of PPE the workers cleaning up the Chernobyl disaster had to wear. But now I see that nothing has changed in what doctors and nurses would wear to respond to a similar biological disaster.

Maybe for the next pandemic we will have the medical staff wear the appropriate gear that I thought they were training with for the past few decades like this:

Instead we have our medical staff wearing garbage bags held on with duct tape and reusing face masks.
There are even cases of nurses getting reprimanded for bringing in supplies that they bought from GO Fund Me accounts.
    WTF?

And your test is scheduled when?

Seriously, that's what is so bad about the virus. People feel fine, see no reason not to work (in some cases working to keep things normal and to help the economy), and some of those folks are carriers.

    Edited for clarification.

Obviously getting through this crisis is the main goal.

But the aftermath could be churning cesspool (nice visual & olfactory image, eh) for decades. I'm hearing more reports of lawsuits being filed and being considered.

    Legitimate lawsuits. Frivolous ones.

Someone we know works for perhaps the largest and best known sporting goods store chain in the US (think alphabetic). They stayed open as an essential business. He works as an associate who deals with customers, and the company DID NOT provide to the employees masks, hand sanitizer, gloves, etc. The company basically operates like business as usual.

Yeah, this is gonna be a cluster fuck for a long time. China is reporting an uptick in cases, South Korea had 100 people get the virus AGAIN, but they don't know if it's a new infection or just a reactivation, Russia is getting hit now, and the King of the United States will reopen the country when he wants. It's "his" decision. Funny, it wasn't his decision when the country needed to be shut down.

Ralphie, I really hope it misses you.

The wife and I will be resetting our clocks tomorrow. We both have to go in to work. We're both planning on wearing masks when we're out and about. She has trouble keeping hers on due to smallish ears. My big ass ears swallow up those ties like nobody's business.

Stay safe and healthy out there.

these are exceptional times. Trump has proven to be a clusterF himself. Your Dems are so far right (comparatively speaking), that anytime something regarding support bills gets suggested, its seen as socialism it gets shot down. The rest of the world has been laying off staff already. I've managed to keep my 10 people and myself going because they can work remotely, and the government passed a bill that will finance my salaries as an emergency measure. But that is waaaay off of the right side of policy. Meanwhile our conservative provincial leader has nothing but good to say about the Federal support.

Like I said, these are exceptional times, and the Prime Minister , as well as the premiers have all stated that we are on a war footing.
