Food Convection ovens? Who has one? Who has used one? Who wants one?

The oven is awesome. Just because she could, she had both ovens and the stove top going all at one time. :p

The old dishwasher was hooked up to a non-standard sized copper pipe, and one of the old fittings would be better off being replaced. So the countdown clock and the quietness of the dishwasher probably will need moved back to this weekend. Too much going on to block off half a day to doing the work necessary to install the new water line. :( I tried making it work with what I had on hand and was getting a drip every 30-45 seconds. It is physically in place, but it is a few days from being operational.

    But the oven rocks.

I so wish I had a bigger oven, or better yet, two ovens. The ovens here are in the UK model of smallish. Of course, that's assuming people even have ovens, many don't.

The dishwasher is officially installed as of this afternoon. We ended up completely redoing the incoming water line from where it splits off underneath the sink.

And by "we", I mean my dad offered to do it because he is awesome and is the greatest handy man on the planet. Since technically the dishwasher was a gift mainly from my parents (her parents and some other family chipped in too, but my parents paid for most of it) he felt responsible even though I told him he wasn't. So anyway, he came over this afternoon and did 95% of the work while I kept him company. :D

We haven't run a full cycle yet, not enough dirty dishes. I'll keep you posted.

This is a sidenote and has nothing to do with appliances. While I don't think my father (or father in law) are the handiest people on the planet, I'm am often amazed at their ability to know what to do in a range of DIY situations. My FIL has the very best shed I've ever seen, full of every imaginable tool (yes, there is a lathe a drill press a drop saw and many many other things), including many that was his dad's. Definitely first place to visit *before* going to the hardware :)

I have often found myself being the company (and providing the post-job beer) as they are both hands on - gotta love it!

Keeping us in suspense! Damn you!

I miss DIY. In Toronto, I had a workshop. I took care of my house. Whatever I couldn't do, my brother was there to help (he's awesome). Here? I have a decent tool kit (not a workshop) but there really isn't that much DIY to do. And when it's necessary, I can either get the estate manager to fix it for nothing, or it's of a level where I can't fix it (i.e. replace the motherboard on my washing machine).

I need to saw some wood and pound some nails (not a euphemism).

All this to say, I wish I could sit around drinking beer while my father-in-law/brother/friend fixed some stuff. Good on ya, Borla.

Ran the dishes last night. Probably 1/3 of the noise level of the old dishwasher. If the dishwasher was installed on an outside facing wall instead of on the wall between the kitchen and the dining room, I think it would be even quieter. There are long stretches of the cycle you can't even tell it's on unless you are right next to it (never happened with the old one). Most importantly, all the dishes were spotless, and that was just using the basic cycle, none of the fancy extra scrubbing cycles.
