The games were really pretty boring this weekend, apparently, because Tt didn't jump up and down as much as usual.

All but the most rabid Husker fans are calling this game a toss up. I don't bet on those kind of odds, but will enjoy watching the game from a ranch in the Sand Hills. I'm gonna do some horseback riding, and maybe shoot a few bluerocks.

We watched Saturday's game in Broken Bow, Nebraska at the Bonfire Grill and Pub which was located where we were staying in the Arrow Hotel in downtown Broken Bow right on the town square. Friendly people and diehard Husker fans! Sig and I were the only ones not wearing red at game time so one of the regulars went home (about three blocks) and brought each of us a red Nebraska Huskers tee shirt.

It was a great game, with the win up for grabs right up until the end when Nebraska won 35-32. The partisan crowd wished that the Huskers had tromped the Ducks down, but were happy with the win. And they loved Coach Riley. "Such and improvement on that blowhard Bo Pelini." who was an embarrassment to a lot of Nebraskans. We were both pretty well lit up by the time we finally stumbled upstairs to our room.

While I was frustrated with the outcome, it was a competitive game throughout. The Ducks had too many injuries, not enough stops on defense, and committed many stupid penalties. They can't do that against a good team like the Huskers and expect to overcome it as easily as they did a couple of years ago.

    My third f*ck*ng attempt..........................

The Cougars had to rely on a 4th quarter rally, and the score would not have as nearly as impressive without the two interceptions leading to TDs. Not an impressive outing.

Mentioning Ohio, the Buckeyes stomped the Sooners (yeah!!). Mentioning that game, what's the point of video review if the officials will not overturn what is very clearly a bad call? Yes, OU probably would've gotten the TD anyway, but but but that's not guaranteed. Suppose the game had ended up being extremely close?

I must mention Noah Brown's amazing catch behind the back of the defender.

I guess that the Cougars decided not to piss around tonight.

Huskers missed a TD by fumbling over the goal line into the Northwestern endzone for a touchback. Not once, but twice. But they did win.

Last night the Cougars gave the Huskies some payback.

Two concerns regarding the Cougars performance:
Their flat play in the first quarter :( (that won't fly against a good team).
They let the Huskies score :p.

Last night I thought about posting something in regards to me rooting for Houston the rest of the season in your honor (since Oregon is going to struggle to even get to 8 wins this year), but I wasn't sure if you wanted that kiss of death......

I'd like to see the Cougars run the table and make some noise in the playoff and in Big 12 expansion talk. I think the Big 12 expansion thing is the only shot they have at keeping Tom Herman very long. He gets an automatic huge raise if they join.

The Cougars have a recent history of losing good coaches. Pardee back to the NFL was completely understandable. Briles and sumlin (boo, hiss, I still want sumlin to fall on his face) jumping ship for more money hurt, even if also understandable. If the Big 12 means Herman stays with the Cougars, at least until a really big jump presents itself, which will happen, I'm all for it.

I'm torn. I believe in student-athletes rather than universities that are football factories, nothing more than a four year (if the player sticks around four years) training camp for the NFL. But I also know that most successful college football programs don't recruit the best & the brightest choir boys; look at what happened with Briles at Baylor. Yet it's nice to say "Hey, look at what the Cougars are doing!". And to see them mentioned first on the local news over the aggies and longhorns; there were times when you would think that A&M and/or UT was located in Houston. It really pissed me off.

The talk around here in Lincoln is all about the classy way in which Les Miles handled his termination. In contrast to the profane and public hissy fit that Bo Pelini threw when he got let go at Nebraska a couple of years ago.

Last year (2015 season) Nebraska felt a kind of fourth quarter snake bite, having lost 5 games by a total of 13 points, a couple of them on the last play of the game.

This year, on their way to a 5-0 record (already equaling 2015 total wins for the year) the Huskers have outscored their opponents in the fourth quarter by a total of 78-6.

Now if they could just sharpen up a bit for the first three quarters...

Most folks don't give the Navy football team much thought. I sincerely hope that the Cougars show up ready to play hard all four quarters because something tells me they're going to need to.

The aggies record and stats indicates that kevin sumlin has finally figured out having a team that plays well on both sides of the football is more important than just relying on a hot QB.

Is a PO or Bowl game between the Cougars & the aggies a possibility? I won't pretend to know the procedures involved in matching teams. The local interest would be through the roof, I'm not sure about nationally.

    This early, anything is possible.

For Houston to make the playoff, they probably need run the table and have at least 1-2 of the Power 5 Champs BR a two loss team. Or a one loss team with a bad, late loss. In theory that could happen and the Aggies make the playoff. Then the match-ups would be entirely based on rankings.

Most bowls are based on who the bowl chooses to invite, with a few giving specific nods to certain conferences first. Most major bowls would probably choose to spread their TV audience between two regions. But who knows, too early to do more than make a wild guess IMO.

Congratulations to Navy, they came ready to play.

The Cougars, as I feared, had a big letdown against Navy; they can kiss their top ranking & the POs goodbye. There are no excuses for their performance.

On paper  the Cougars should've won....big. Navy didn't have great numbers, but they scored points when they had the chance.
