    The countdown clock was a countdown to Xmas when we first launched in August.

    Personally I don't dare since I don't participate. I only call my family because that's what they care about.

    Yeah I've started having that attitude when it comes to somewhat distant relatives' funerals. Like for instance, last winter one of my grand-uncles died. He lived in the area, but never made the effort to hang out with me or my immediate family or show up at the more extended family gatherings. So when he died and my mom asked if I was going to go with them to his funeral I said no, even though the polite thing would be to go anyways.

    It's not exactly the same thing as your situation of calling on Christmas, but it was just over the last few years that I started not doing things just to please my family/be polite.
