?

Do you care that China is ready for its own space station?

I like this idea as well... In addition, the technology used isn't mutually exclusive from that required for colonizing outer space. I once had a dream where we sent robotic submarines down under Enceladus' crust and found life around thermal vents.

    Ourcrazymodern? still, wondering

It seems to me likely that personal excuses are not what's holding this species back. Society & its lubricant will continue to make our excuses for us. Unless China is insecure, which it doesn't seem to me to be, it wants cooperation. I don't know what about such a thing scares those of us from elsewhere.

lol i don't know what your beef with me is dude but the fact that i think that satellites are child's play compared to what we'll be doing in the future should be enough to convince you that i want space programs to go far. i think it's wiser to spend precious resources elsewhere for the time being. eventually, sure, but right now we have bigger fish to fry

I think that if the US took half the money it's been spending for wars and tax cuts and spent it on bolstering scientific research and STEM programs in elementary and high schools we'd have nothing to worry about in terms of falling behind the rest of the world.

Would half that money replenish the trust of those who thought they were paying into something sustainable? I'm not sure, but I think destruction is big business, well-funded, & unlikely to take responsibility soon enough. Weird. Not unlike spending all that money trying to counter what people believe. The wide-open spaces rolling by make me think that there's plenty of room, butt I've never been in an extremely-crowded space.

This is one of the most beautiful quotes I've read in a long time, thank you. I'm also with the majority here. I don't care who does it as long as someone's doing it. It'll benefit everybody in the long run.

What does this mean for you?
    Nothing.

Does the average joe even care?
    No.

Do you think commercial spaceflight can compete with China?
    No.

How might this motivate a change in space policy for the US, EU, and Russia?
    It wont do a thing.

Why is China setting off on their own rather than joining the rest of the world with the ISS?
    Don't know. Care even less.

What countries do you think will align themselves with China's space efforts?
    None.

What does this mean for you?
Nothing tangible really. But I am very interested in space exploration and the technologies that are developed with them. We discover new things when it comes to planning for visiting space because we first have to understand how things work down here in order to function out there.

Does the average Joe even care?
With the recent sci-fi cancellations replaced with wrestling ... I'd have to say no.
Being that most countries have their own economic strife to deal with ... I'd have to say no.

Do you think commercial spaceflight can compete with China?
No. China actually has a govt. funded space program. They'll go further with ensuring safety standards are met and quality products are utilized.

How might this motivate a change in space policy for the US, EU, and Russia?
They might see what research chances they're losing out on but essentially, NATO has never been motivated by anything that doesn't yield results in a short amount of time.

Why is China setting off on their own rather than joining the rest of the world with the ISS?
Well, scientific research that can be gained through space exploration is priceless and phenomenal. Think of the advancements in weaponry, locomotive and even medicine NASA has developed. China would gain advances in technology and what better goal to obtain these advancements through than by a space program? The technology alone is enough to not want to share. Technology will give them a strong foothold in trading and add dynamic in a global economy.

What countries do you think will align themselves with China's space efforts?
Many would want to especially countries that have recently successfully launched satellites into space like India but China will most likely turn them down until such a time as they see fit to add them to the team. This would mean sharing milestones in engineering technology.

This is the stuff of the future. I am dismayed that I will not be part of the generation that partakes in it. But I am happy to be part of the generation that kick-starts it.
