Hopefully the procedure is a success.

It's obviously much better to learn you need that from a check-up than from more serious symptons, not to mention that sometimes people don't know it until it's too late. Take care of yourself man.

  3. Will be thinking about you tomorrow, ralphie. Any procedure like this is scary but it is rather simple. My father had a stent placed in his aorta last Friday. He's doing fine now and he's 87.

Looking forward to your report on all the hot nurses.

Totally this this this. Feck yes. My dad would probably be dying of old age if he hadn't been 'got sudden' at the age of 56.
They DO know what they are doing. All the very best to you, Ralphie. Take care.

ralphie250 I hope you're doing good after the procedure.
My father-in-law had a heart attack a few years ago. He had ignored the pains in his arm and chest for quite a while when he "suddenly"* got a heart attack while on vacation. It ended well, and after getting four stints he was in better shape than he had been for the last year.

I'm glad you stopped ignoring the symptoms and took a u-turn on your way to a heart attack.

(*In hindsight it was far from sudden - had he taken the symptoms seriously. A long history of back- and joint pains made him think it was just more pain he had to deal with - even though his dad died of a heart attack just 40 years old...)

    im back. sorta...
they did the heart cath and i ended up with no stents but they did to the balloon procedure on 2 arteries cause they were starting to collapse. they said it was due to being overweight. they said i had a heart attack 9they apparently know this cause your heart releases enzimes when you have one) and it was due to stress on my heart from being overweight and the stress in my life.
they told me the normal stuff. loose weight, quit smoking, etc...

so far the quiting smoking is the hardest thing.
seems that the bruise on my leg is the worst part of the getting better so far.
its kind of a scary situation when the dr tells you that you had 3 heart attacks over the corse of a month. its like a reality check.
i appreciate the concern on the above posts from redlemon and craven morehead and amonke. thanks :). ill get back on in a little while. thanks to all.

Glad to hear you are ok man. Listen to the doctor. As much as we want you around, I'm sure your family and loved ones are even more concerned. Ask them for help to keep you on track, and then don't get upset with them when they get on you to quit smoking or eat better.

    Best wishes on recovery. :)

  14. Whew. Glad you're back ralphie. Really glad. I know several other people who have been in the same place as you are. And they are all doing fine many years later becasuse they followed their Dr's orders. I've quit smoking (under different circumstances), it isn't easy. But it can be done. Losing weight doesn't have to be hard. I hope your Dr has you working with a nutritionist. Just cutting back in eating isn't the best way to do this. It's also modifying your menu choices.

You now have a job to do. So, do it well and drop by and give us updates from time to time.

    Good luck.

Swift recovery, and it could have been much worse if you hadn't had a check up.

fflowley Don't just do something, stand there!

Keep at it Ralphie, you will succeed in quitting even if it takes multiple tries, and you will be much better off for it.

Yep - the quitting smoking is a bitch but there are ways to lessen the pain. Drink lots of water. Cut out or change habitual things that you often had a cigarette with - I mean if you always had a cigarette at coffee break try carrying a bottle of water instead, and going for a 5 minute walk. Keep sugar free gum or hard candy available in order to keep the oral fixation under control. Play with silly putty or one of those tension relieving squeeze balls in order to keep your hands busy. At home, when the urge is really rough grab that water bottle and take a hike around the block. And finally, make every cigarette a choice instead of a habit pattern. Choose to not smoke just yet. You may make that choice 3 times a minute for hours on end, but it does get easier.

Also look into diet adjustments and ask your Dr. about weight loss though food choices. Cut down on bread, pasta, starch - be careful of sugars including fruit juices. btw I don't recommend this for everyone, and you really have to pay attention to the details, but the Dukan diet I'm on has had me lose over 15 lbs in the past 4 weeks. That isn't 15 lbs of water - it's 15 lbs of fat. I've drilled a new notch in my belt. I have a bit less than 20 more lbs to go.
