That video had my jaw on the floor the whole time, it's hard to believe people actually made videos like that.

And on a side note, I didn't know that the Village People was a gay group. Are they really? Are you just yankin' my chain?

At the time (I was in my late teens, early 20's and still naive when both groups hit the scene) I knew next to nothing about homosexuality. I walked in on my boyfriend having sex with one of his male professors when I was 18 and had no clue what they were doing, except that it seemed very out of the ordinary. I put that one right out of my head and only recalled the incident again recently. Homosexuality still wasn't talked about much back then, outside of large cosmopolitan areas, and a lot of my friends had no clue either. In the days before MTV we only got to see the artists who were performing the music if we caught them on a lame TV program or in concert or they were on their own album covers or featured in the Rolling Stone. Even then, most of us weren't thinking in terms of sexual orientation. The Village People were just guys having fun with costumes and Freddie was a freak with an awesome voice.

Sad and pathetic, but true.

 

This is all so confusing. Oh for the good ole days when there were REAL men around like Rock Hudson , Jim Nabors, Richard Chamberlain, Tab Hunter and Montgomery Clift. Real men you could count on the watch your backside.....

 

Rock was into the younger 20something blondes , at least in the last part of his life. Not that it really matter of course.
I find the story of James Whale more interesting in this general vein. He lived openly but not flamboyantly as homosexual in those years where it was practically a death sentence to any mainstream career in Hollywood.

 

So now I suppose you're all going to tell me that Liberace was gay too!

 

No way was he gay! You can tell just by looking at him he liked hanging out with all the showgirls.

 

Except when he was in Transylvania. Even then, I thought he was only sucking blood.
