    My favorite is Sangria

    Ingredients [ oz | cl ]
    26 oz Red Wine
    3 oz Brandy
    3 oz Port Wine
    3 oz Orange Liqueur
    4 tbsps Sugar
    1 Orange
    1 Lemon

    Method: Prepare in a bowl
    Glass: Saucer
    Recipe:

Pour a bottle of red wine (Spanish wine is even better - just don't use an expensive bottle) in a pitcher.
The pitcher needs to be large enough to contain all the ingredients. A 32 oz (1L) container will be fine.
Add the Port, the Brandy and the Orange liqueur (Triple Sec is fine).
    Add the sugar.
Slice half the orange and half the lemon and add them in the mix.
Juice the other halves and add in the mix.
Add any fruits readily available in the mix - chunks of strawberries, nectarines, apples, melons, etc. are good choices.
Stir until the sugar is dissolved.
Let the mix rest in the fridge for about 24 hours for better results.
Serve in wine glasses, saucers or tulip glasses with ice cubes.

In the same family as that sangria, for the cold days we've been having a Smoking Bishop is ideal

Cut 5 Seville oranges in half (or 3 oranges and a grapefruit if you don't happen to have Seville oranges, you don't want it to be too sweet.) Poke two or three whole cloves into each orange half and bake face up at 300 °F until the start to brown (45 minutes or so)
Boil 1 bottle of red wine in a saucepan, add 1/4tsp each of allspice and cinnamon, a pinch of ginger, and half a cup of sugar, and simmer for 10 minutes. Let sit overnight
    --the next day--
Strain the liquid into a saucepan, add 750ml of port wine, heat but do not boil
    Serve hot, lemon slices optional.

For an original, I have to recommend a cucumber ginger martini.

    In a shaker with ice,
Chop 1 inch of cucumber into salad-sized slices and muddle
    2oz gin
    1oz vermouth
1oz Domaine de Canton ginger liqueur
    strain and serve straight

Also works with St. Germain if you prefer elderflower to ginger. I recommend trying both and picking your favorite. I should also warn you that based on the past few times I've made it, it tastes like it has a lot less alcohol than it does, especially when serving it as shots.

Up here in the northeast we call that a Screaming Nazi. I ordered one once in college and got a pint glass full. It would have been a great drink if nor for the fact that I hate peppermint. I drank the fucking thing anyway.

    Befitting the cold weather hereabouts....

    Mulled Wine

1 bottle medium-bodied red wine (I like Shiraz best for this, but I've used Chianti, and Burgundy)
2-3 jiggers of Old Krupnik (Polish honey liquor, around 70 or 80 proof; brandy or fruit liquor of the same general strength could also be used)
1/8 cup to 1/4 cup best quality honey (depending on how sweet you like your mulled wine)
    Zest of 1 orange
3-4 thick slices of fresh, peeled ginger
    8-10 whole cloves
    6-8 whole allspice berries
    5-6 cardamom pods
    2 sticks cinnamon
    3 star anise
A small palmful of black peppercorns
    1/4 tsp mace
    A pinch of sumac
    A pinch of coriander

Place the spices into a bouquet garni sachet, or soup sock, or tie up in cheesecloth. Heat the wine, the honey, the orange zest, the ginger, and the packet of spices together in a pot over medium-high heat until it just begins to bubble. Reduce heat to warm, add the Old Krupnik, and serve hot in mugs.
