Damn yeah I am. I don't think anyone in my family has ever needed a transplant, but some dear ones have been donors and changed many lives when they crossed. I'm a blood donor while I'm alive (A- makes me very popular). When I'm done with this body, take anything and everything you can. Incinerate the rest.
I've never even thought about turning the donor registration around, making people opt out, instead of opting in. I likes it.

Okay, maybe 'incinerate' is insensitive or offensive. I plan to have my remains cremated. I have no emotional attachment to my future earthly remnants. Apololgies if I came across as too harsh.

    Yes I am
    Started with eyes then everything
My family knows and my wife totally honors that

Reasons are not religious or emotional but just pragmatic, why waste it when it could live more

But I have a soft corner for all organ donors regardless of their reasons. That is totally emotional

I am an organ donor. I'm still creeped put by the idea. I don't like the idea that my body will be mutilated and defiled before they bury me but my altruistic senses win out. If it improves someone's quality of life or even saves it then it's worth it.

I'm an identical twin so I could be a live donor if he needed kidney or liver.

I'm inclined to register as a bone marrow donor too but somehow I've never got round to actually doing it.

I am indeed a donor. Ontario has recently made it much easier to do; we have photo cards for the public healthcare system (OHIP) that need to be renewed periodically, and when you renew them there's a tick box on the card asking whether you'd like to register as a donor. If you check the box they put the word "DONOR" right on the back of your card.

I'm not religious. I don't believe in souls or heaven or any of that stuff. Once I'm dead, my body is just so much meat. If someone can make good use of it they might as well -- sounds a hell of a lot better to me than just sticking it underground to rot.

I'm also signed up to donate my body to scientific research, which I suspect is what will actually end up happening; I'm not even sure if my organs are viable, thanks to my health issues. I know they won't let me donate blood or bone marrow, so it doesn't seem promising. Some med student's going to get a kick out of my intestines some day.

Semi-related, I've told my family that I don't want a lavish funeral when I go either. I don't care, I'll be dead. Do what you need to do to move on, but if you're going to blow a bunch of money remembering me I'd rather you spend it on a wake than a funeral. Let everyone have a good time and remember me as the happy, carefree asshole I am.

    absolutely not.

I wont deny its selfish, but think about it...

Say I get in a car wreck, and its 50/50 whether I make it. And just down the road is a fella who is about to give up the ghost, but if he gets a new set of lungs it's 90% he'll make it. Another guy who's got his eyes on my live. then there's a blind fella who has the same type of eyes as mine who would get his sight back if he had mine out. Maybe a guy with a 3 inch penis who wants a transplant with someone who's a bit bigger. He's offered a private surgeon 50 long ones on the quiet if he can find him a minimum of a seven incher. I dont know, whatever...

The doctors are going to just take a view, arent they?

50% chance on poor old Adam or 90% chance on the fella without any lungs.

Chances are the doctors will play the percentages, unplug me, have all me parts out and passed round to other people before you know it.

I'm not prepared to run the risk. I want them doing there best on me, not taking a view on whether my organs will do more use out of me than in me.

  9. Oh hey....I just said I wanted to do this in a different thread. I learned about it from my mom. She wanted to do it, but she ended up changing her mind after my dad died. They were both cremated.

But yeah...I'm an organ donor. I'm not going to be needing all my bits and pieces.

And Strange Famous famous ... that's not how it works.

    Im not taking the chance.

I might be over egging it with the stuff about having my cock off, but they can take your eyes, liver, heart, kidneys, ears, etc etc I believe seriously than can take your balls as well.

Someone said that 16 people can live from my death.

    So be realistic.

If I was 50/50... and they could save 16 people with my innards... you think the doctor is going to go all out to save me? No chance. I'm not running that risk/

It's like the Zsquirrel said. A doctor won't look at your mangled body and just go "Fuck it, he's a donor"--while he chucks your kidneys in a mason jar and goes to masturbate in the ICU. That's just not how it works--they take Hippocratic oaths and swear to uphold some level of ethics in all that they do. In short, your decision to donate your organs has no influence on how a surgeon or a healthcare professional will perform their operation.

Yes, I am an organ donor too. Though I wonder what use they will get out of me. From experience in my line of work, should I pass, they will have to do an autopsy and probably be needing my tissues for testing. Which makes my organs useless.

They could be very good to somebody though, I'm hardly ever sick (knock on wood) so far I have never had to call in sick. Last I can remember is a 2 day slump with something like the flu, but it was during the weekend, so it probably was just a bad hangover about a decade ago.

It doesn't surprise me that almost everybody here is a donor, open minded people tend to be.

  17. I joke that no one will want my liver, but during a visit to the hospital (Gall bladder) they did an ultra sound. The tech took one look at my liver and said, "That's a good looking liver!" I laughed because A. I was on a lot of pain killers and B. MY liver!?! I drink a lot.

My brother gets first dibs on his kids' livers...but he said if I absolutely needed a piece, he'd look into it. THAT is the only reason why I would want my own biological children.

    Some wouldnt, some would.

You get all levels of corruption in every job, from crooks, to people who take a view.

If this man could really save 16 lives at the expense of mine, and I was 50/50 anyway... in a moral sense I couldn't blame him. Obviously on a personal level I would be livid.
