Are women looking at adult material??

Discussion in 'Tilted Life and Sexuality' started by rogue49, Dec 15, 2014.

The reason given since I was a lad, is that women are not as visually stimulated as men are. I'm not sure how correct this is, but women do react differently then men do to nudity.

On the flip side go online, you can't shake a webcam without seeing a cock, while exhibitionist women are in far shorter supply. If women liked looking at penis as much as guys like looking a pussy the world would be a happier place.

I always wondered if this it by nature or culture...likely a bit of both.
From the dynamic I've seen...men are very visual in a sexual context. (including gay males)
And women tend to be a bit more exhibitionist in their wardrobe with showing skin than men. (men tend to layer, from what I've seen...at least lately after the "sexual revolution")

Or is this a double-standard? Because women won't typically be prosecuted for flashing their tits or undies...men are gone after quicker and harder for flashing, nor are they as willing to do so. (at least what I've been around)
And I could be wrong here. But it seems to be true even in the media. (not porn, of course...but most other general media)

But does this translate into the willing to watch adult material? And I'm not talking about exceptions or outliers...but major patterns and trends in some volume.
Or is it just a different types??

As others have said above, mostly I've seen women be interested in some "titillation" activities...some written stuff too.
But not full on XXX porn...this is atypical. At least what they admit to.

Then again, it's more "acceptable" and in more volume for women to buy adult toys than men. (at least this was the tendency I saw when I clerked in the Adult Bookshop)
But it's been 25 years since...and the internet has taken off.
So the pattern may have change...especially with the younger women.

But I'm not about to ask my niece and her friends. (nope, don't think so...I'll keep my DOM to myself...and she can have her own "interesting" side...I don't want to know)

But I can ask it here...because that's one of the things TFP is great for. (still say sociologists would have a field day here for recorded studies...great duck blind. ;) )

Just curious to see if the dynamic has changed or increased.
    As availability has increased
    And cultural norms have relaxed.

I think the "women don't like porn as much as men do" thing is a complete and utter myth. We're just consumers of different kinds of porn.

For example, I read manga. Yaoi/BL manga, which focus on sexual relationships between men that may or may not be sexually explicit in their depictions, are increasingly popular in the United States. In fact, my favorite title just got licensed a few months back and is going to finally see a serious release in the U.S. These stories are aimed for women--the men in these are typically emotionally available and open with each other, and that makes it really appealing to read. And then there's the hot dude-on-dude boning. In these manga, the visual aspect is married to the story aspect.

These kinds of things are just a different iteration of the classic romance novel, which lacks the visual aspect, but is nonetheless titillating. My mother's generation read a lot of romance. My mom had three copy paper boxes worth of romance novels that she passed on to me when I was 12-13. I read them all. There is a range of content in these things. I still have one, Island Flame, that has major consent issues and a couple rape scenes.

The Internet has allowed women to be consumers of visual pornography. I think the world has been in denial for a long time that women weren't watching.

Well, this was exactly what I was asking...if women are looking at adult material more.

Now, IMHO...adult material is kind of obvious... things that would likely get you fired from work, arrested for flashing, graphic verbiage to a large extent or blatant showing of skin.
I'm not including bathing suits, unless they're posture is overly sexual. (let's not get into border-line things that can be easily seen on prime time pay channels)
I'm talking real adult material here. Porn, but perhaps a bit more than porn...but I'm sure you get my point. Let's not split hairs.

And I will say, even though I'm very open minded...MOST women will not admit to viewing this. At least publicly in mixed company.
Men are a bit more, nudge-nudge, about it.
So excuse me if I'm seeming naive here...I'm not. I'm just asking an out and out question...because most females won't say it to my face...or many others' faces.

If they are...then great. I love it.
    The more the merrier.
    And healthier, I think.

I'm just waiting for the time when women can be as open about their sexuality as men are.
And be as aggressive about it too. (sorry, even the "aggressive" women I know, mostly state things in passive terms...and double-meanings, it's rare if it's straight-forward)

So, my attitude...women, enjoy yourselves. See a man (or woman), in a super sexy and adult manner...and take in the whole view.
Do it as much as you want...partake.

Hell, you may even supersede men in your perversity. (openly) ...and the world will be much better for it.
Women have as much right to be as sick & disgusting as men are. (openly)

And men, get over yourselves...your dick isn't something to hide. (stop with all the ass shots)
If women can do full frontal all the time...you can too. (not that I want to see it. :D *yuck* but you get what I'm saying)

Perhaps, it's a bit different in mindset in Europe and other places, the US can be a bit puritanical. (unfortunately, this is where I live for now)

Tell me if you have a different view.

I'm pretty sure I supersede most people when it comes to perversity, regardless of sex or gender.

    And I appreciate it...I do.
But openly and in public? Discrete, like a guy feels comfortable doing and getting away with? (not the thread topic, but just curious)

Just trying to gauge how much the cultural mores have shifted. (although, it may be individual and specific for you)

Because of my profession, not as often anymore. One of my biggest fears is checking out some cute guy's butt when I'm strolling through the college campus here on the way to a game, then having him turn around and turn out to be one of my former students. However, out at 21-and-over establishments, game on.

Last night there was this woman at the bar we were at that was beautiful, but androgynous, even verging on masculine. Thin but with a square jaw, a nose that had been broken, and square shoulders. If it weren't for her breasts, which were relatively small and flat (still sexy), I would have assumed she was a he (still might have been a former he, or passing very well). I kept finding myself checking her out, as she was definitely attractive, and very much hit on some of my desires. I wasn't trying to be obvious, as she was on a date, but in another context, I very may well have been obvious.

I look at "adult material" off and on, and have since my teens. My dad's store had an adult video room and I would go in there when no one else was around. SoI saw the boxes before I saw any videos and one of my (female) friends and I would sneak out with a couple and take them to her house and mostly giggle a lot. One thing that might be different with women and adult material is that we tend to be more social. I mostly watch porn with my guy rather than alone, and combine some uh... hands on with the eyes on.:)
Sig does watch alone, and even though he knows it's OK, is still a little secretive about it.

Here's some things that I like and don't like about porn (visual)
I like to watch kissing. Mouth to mouth. I like other oral but sensual, real kissing lights my fire.
I like movement. Moving hands, sliding and swaying breasts, (in slo-mo)
I like to see bodies and faces, not close-ups of genitalia. More than a few seconds of watching piston in pussy bores me.
I would prefer that the performers to be lean and fit. That means the men too. And find some younger guys.

My interests are probably about 90% hetero, but still, I could watch attractive women's bodies all day. I look at men's butts, but looking at naked man bodies don't get interesting unless they're within reach.:D
I don't like noisy fake gagging blowjobs. A big noisy turnoff to me. I can deep throat without gagging, a pro should too.
I love watching what in the biz they call "oral creampies.":p They make me wish I were there.
I hate when at the end of a scene the guy has to jack himself off for half a minute to cum. Excuse me, why don't you just stay home and jack off?
But it's OK to jack yourself if you do it while your partner has your balls in her mouth. That's HOT!:p
I hate badly done boob jobs. By that I mean fake (bolt-ons) tits, not an inexpert titfuck.:)
The "big black cock" genre does nothing for me.
I like threesomes. Slightly prefer FFM over FMM. But more than three players just gets too awkward.
Not too much emphasis on anal, please.

OK, enough of that for now, I'm getting a little sexed-up. Tomorrow morning will be a great time for some extended sex.

Thanks @Lindy for the input...that's what I was looking for.
As an aside, I prefer to watch on "mute" because the dialog is so bad...as is the sounds (real or fake) ...the "realness" is provided by the visual for me. So I understand your preference not to hear a noisy BJ.

Have to say I agree on the whole gagging thing.
When did that become a thing?
Lately so much of it seems to be about making the woman as uncomfortable as possible while the older porn was more about showing off how good they were at sucking cock.
    Don't get it.

I forget the names and details, but there used to be two brothers whose company produced a whole lot of porn. (That ended when one of them murdered the other.)

At one point, they were helping out some free-speech effort by filming a bunch of lectures or speeches at a conference.

After all, they had the video equipment, camera operators, etc., etc.

But it turned out that their videos were useless, because the lecturers were recorded with no sound!

Normal procedure in their shop was to create and dub in a sound track in post-production.

That's almost as bad as "Is s the lense cap supposed to be on?."

To further the threadjack...The Band is one of my favorite bands. The guitarist Robbie Robertson wasn't (and still isn't) a very good singer, but he insisted on having a microphone and would appear to be joyfully singing along. The sound guys turned off/didn't plug in his mic. The Woodstock rockumentary & soundtrack left out/off many bands because of contract issues, including The Band. Some of the 'discarded' footage has shown up on YouTube. You can find clips of The Band where Robbie's mic was left on.

Ok, ok...guys...back on topic...bring it back around.

I think the "problem" I have and many others do too (both men & women) is that we are still putting women on a pedestal.
Not in a respect context...we should all respect them as humans and their own strengths.

But in what's "appropriate"...how many times can a woman hear that's not "appropriate" for you to do. That's not really said to men, except when flashing their johnson in non-adult media.
They are animals just like men.
They are humans just like men.
They have desires...raw desires, just like men. (perhaps in differing tastes and types...but still all the same)
They can be bad just like men.
They can have strengths & weaknesses like any human.

One of the reasons I love "Masters of Sex" is that it explores the boundaries that people have in a restrictive society. (even to this day)

So, now that the Internet is out there...allowing ALL people to get their freak flag on, if they so desire, in the safety and discretion of their own home.
How does this increase the volume and type of porn & other adult material women are viewing??

We "know" men look at porn, it's a running joke, semi-openly admitted...if not bragged about. (nudge-nudge)
Why don't women do this more?
Why aren't they "allowed" do this?

I'm wanting to see how much women are enjoying their own freak openly and more often these days.

And I want to take away the word, "appropriate" from the level that it is given to women...and bring it down to the context of discretion that BOTH men & women should have within public areas. (work, gatherings, outside, etc.)

IMHO...enjoy your sex, get your freak flag on ladies.
Just like you are getting your job comparison numbers up...I want you to enjoy having your "other numbers" up along with guys.
    You deserve your passion.
    As much as you want.
    The way you want.

And to boast about it when you want. (within the same "rules" men have)

And that's what I consider, appropriate.

    To answer the OP:

Yes. There have always been women who like pornography and erotica.

Also, women aren't some monolithic group, so I don't know that it makes sense to try to nail down their preferred genres. Suffice it to say, women are just as freaky as men.

BTW, and FWIW, as I have said several times on various threads, I do not like professional porn, and always, always eschew it in favor of amateur, homemade fuckery.

And I mean really, truly amateur, not just low-rent porn actors in deliberately under-lit productions. I am not interested in watching actors not good enough to get cast in soap operas get paid to do some sexcrobatics for forty-five minutes until Rock Hardcock is ready to wank his obligatory half-gallon of spooge onto Regina Vagina's badly-stuffed Hindenboobs. I want to see actual human beings doing actual fucking and having actual orgasms. I don't care if they're in perfect physical condition, or are lit by nuclear-strength arc lamps, or are wearing half the Max Factor case from their local Macy's-- in fact, I'm happier if that's not the case.

And every woman I've ever spoken with who watches porn agrees with me. They all said they preferred the internet's harvest of the fruits of people's private sexcapades to anything churned out by Vivid or its ilk. Which makes nothing but sense, as far as I can see.

One mistake people make in any thread involving sexuality is thinking their kink is pretty much everyones kink. This applies to porn just like anything else. If someone doesn't like it, they assume that most "normal" people don't. If someone does like it, they assume most "normal" people do, even if they won't admit it to themselves.

My wife is more "sexually progressive" than 99.5% of women out there, but shes not into porn. She was for a time, but that was for a couple of years only.

Its hard to get "real" data on this stuff. If you say women are not into it as much as men, which the numbers dictate, "pro-porn" will tell you its because they are lying/repressed. Maybe its in part true, but just based on the market, the female demand at least for visual porn is less then men.

I spent a good half an hour yesterday browsing the dedicated BL section at one of the largest bookstores in the world. There were several shelves, all separate from the other manga, largely due to the content. It was hard to resist the urge to buy a random copy of the fifth volume of Junjou Romantica, given that I don't know when the series will be licensed in English again. It was funny to see books with parental advisories on them.

The takeaway? If women weren't buying these things, there wouldn't be a whole section in Powell's just for them.

I meant to go look at the other erotic novels while there, perhaps make some purchases, but I blew all of the time I had on my own looking at manga and other nerd things in the nerd (gold) room. I APOLOGIZE FOR NOTHING.

I find that the erotica (not "romance," but actual erotica) section in many bookstores is larger than the poetry section.

Take from that what you will.
