Antidepressants and libido

See my blog post of a few weeks ago (titled "Update [very long]") for a poignant and painfully true essay by a woman in this situation. Essentially, "what I learned about sex by not having it".

That article hit me very hard, and motivated me to demand change in our relationship.

The long time of "going without" left a deep impact on my own sexuality, but that's a story for another time.

Yes. Compound that with a wife that has a ballet body, and you've got giant Cayvmann blue ball syndrome. ( Although yesterday, in the shower, she was quite receptive... woot )

Drugs have a variety of affects on everyone and anyone...and perhaps more so on antidepressants.

The drug itself might be affecting the libido...or a side-effect might be doing it.
It might do it directly or indirectly.

Unfortunately, sometimes the person might not even be aware of it.
The change can be subtle...and the reasons your libido are affected may be attributed to it.
Or it might add, enhanced or exaggerate to any issue or concern or level.
Or it might be a red herring.

And to make things even more ambiguous...the affects can flux through time and situation.
So where it might be fine one moment...at another affect or add to the mix.
Libido is just one of the things that might be affected, not the only one.
So this is why the user needs to try to be "self-aware" and the SO in turn...and take steps to discuss it with each other.
    and also with your doctor...
They can adjust the dosage...or attempt a different kind/type/brand...or even take you off all-together.

I'd say "self-awareness" is the key...listening to your body...and noting the changes.
    ...as well as communication.

I went through various ups & downs with my ex while she was on a variety of antidepressants.
As the doctors tried out different things and adjust it to help her with her illness.
It didn't help that she wasn't "self-aware"...and it didn't help that she didn't communicate well.
All I knew was something "changed"
I noticed it...and I tried communicating it...but the person taking it has to be willing to consider the potential and receive observations well.
    She didn't.

I hope it works out for the best.
    Just keep talking.

I'm on Welbutrin XL 300mg time-release, but that's not an SSRI - more along the lines of something to do with dopamines or something IIRC. I have more than enough libido though, a situation that's not helped by all the testosterone boosters I take.

I think the strattera is impeding the Cayvmann's mojo...

I am also on Welbutrin. I dont need more testosterone. Indeed, given that my father died of prostate cancer (which means I'm very much at risk), any kind of testosterone supplement would be a huge mistake.

Well since I'm on Finasteride, which doubles as both a hair-loss prevented and a prostate-cancer-preventer, I'll prolly be alright. It blocks the DHT or DiHydroTestosterone, the corrupted for of testosterone that makes men's hair fall out and gives us prostate cancer.
