Almost Human (FOX) 2-Night Premiere Nov. 17-18

Cool! Sounds fun.
I don't know if you or anyone else that watches AH also watched Fringe, another show by JH Wyman, but the cop station interior is the Fringe lab-- guessing same studios?

 

If Fringe is finished production, it's probably the same studio.

 

My friend raved about the show in the beginning, but his opinion of Almost human has cooled down significantly since.

I will probably check it out once the first season finishes.

 

I hate to sound harsh but I found last week's episode of Almost Human to be utterly meh. It was very formulaic--my watching companion noted that all the episodes of Almost Human are "resolved" in the last five minutes--you can practically set your watch to it. And, I'm getting impatient with Almost Human giving both Lili Taylor and Minka Kelly very little to flesh out their characters.

Additionally, it's becoming apparent why Karl Urban is not really a leading man in films (Dread excepted). Despite his hunky appearance--he's sort of boring. His basic modes are annoyed or disturbed or, puzzled and disturbed. His android partner Dorian, is more interesting and more appealing. And yeah, I get it that the dynamic is "supposed" to work that way but I don't think the plan was for Michael Ealy's character to eclipse Karl Urban's.

Going to give this show a bit more time to find its legs as shows in their first seasons sometimes need, but I'm getting the same vibe I had with FOX's "Fringe," which shares the same creator--J.H. Wyman--with this show. The premise sounded awesome. I was hoping for a new show to stay with for the long haul and though Fringe lasted 5 years I was out before 5 episodes. I may not even have much more than five episodes of Almost Human to watch because as of now, it is pulling unspectacular ratings--it is 'on the bubble' for the order for its second half of season one. In other words, despite the enormous hype going into this show, FOX is not sure of its potential longevity, either.

Karl Urban's facial expressions are extremely limited in range, I concur.
