@Borla makes a good point, and now reading the posts I see that there is a shortage of QBs, probably due to the fact that once a QB is in place the back ups don't get any game time or time to sharpen their skills. In fact they don't play at all. The team players, staff, owners and the vast majority of fans relate to the QB. That is the " Rock Star " position. For good reason as well, games are won and lost on the QBs shoulders.

Yes, the QB is usually The General, at least on offense, and how the offense performs definitely affects the defense.

I'd say overall the history of professional football, the NFL in particular, shows offense has been the key to victory. There have been some limited examples of teams where the defense has been the key. The Broncos are the most recent one.

I don't let GMs and/or HCs completely off the hook for the poor play of a back-up QB. Part of their jobs is having a competent back-up and getting them prepared on short notice. Yes, back-up QBs are back-ups for a number of reasons, namely limited skills for experienced QBs and lack of playing time for younger QBs. And of course it's difficult to judge how a back-up will perform in a real game.

    --------------------------

Mentioning QBs, Kubiak doesn't have a great track record with them, at least not when he coached the Texans. It'll be interesting to see what happens with the Broncos this season.

Is P. Manning in Florida? I believe he is doing some QB coaching for Miami. If so, my hopes for Miami are not unfounded.

The report I read made it sound like PM had a casual visit with Tannehill, not something official or permanent. With that said, apparently this isn't the first time that PM has expressed an interest in the Dolphins, and his former QB coach Adam Gase is now HC of the Dolphins. Who knows what might happen?

Manziel is back in the news.

A hit-and-run on Monday. The good news is he didn't do the hitting-and-running; his version of what happened is reportedly supported by eyewitnesses.

His attorney sent a text to a reporter instead of the intended recepient. This seems to confirm, or at least support, the stories that Manziel's sobriety issues involve drug use.

Manziel's father is saying jail is the best place for Johnny. And he refers to his own son as a "druggie."

@Borla will you be the comish again this season? I thought the Yahoo thing worked well. If we can get more participants by changing the venue then I'm up for that as well.

If most everyone is willing I'd be more than happy to do a refresh on the league for 2016. No trouble at all.

The Dallas Cowgirls is the most valuable sports franchise in 2016; WTF? It hasn't done shit, other than one decent playoff run, in 20 years. I can tell you that the number of people I see wearing 'girls team gear is way, way down.

    Never mix football and politics!

Tim Tebow is a Trump supporter and will be speaking at the Republican convention next week.

This sports satire site had a response:

Tim Tebow: "I support Donald Trump because a wall would have kept Mark Sanchez from taking my job."

fflowley Don't just do something, stand there!

I fear in my heart that there is a 4-12, maybe 3-13 season for my beloved Bills lurking in the next few years.
If they aren't a playoff team this year (and I'm not foolish enough to think they will be) then I think they will fire Wrecks Ryan, gut the team and start over.

The list of teams that need rebuilding is about 30 long. I can see the Bills in the playoffs also The Texans especially with the newly acquired QB from Denver. I thought that the Big O did great when PM was benched. Also while I'm on the Broncos it looks as if their defense is still in tact, The Cowgirls are my oldest favorite team but 2o yrs of devotion has reaped little reward. So this year I am a Dolphins fan.

Can someone explain to me why Tebow is even mentioned in NFL discussions? I don't mean the humorous story posted above; for some reason he is still mentioned in the sports media.

So you became a cowgirls fan after their success in the early-mid '90s (back before jackass jerry started thinking that he knew how to run & shadow-coach an NFL team)?

That makes you a bandwagon fan. ;)

It's easy to suddenly root for a proven team; it's difficult to stick by a team during hard times.

Hubris (taken to the highest levels by the cowgirls' fans and the organization for decades) leads to bad karma. At least 70% of the cowgirls fans I've met over the last 40 years received exactly what they deserved over the past 20 years, and I hope it continues for another 40 years.

For most US major league teams, financial value has little to do with winning. It's mostly about media deals, the size of the market, and how much ownership they have of the stadium they play in.

Look at some of the other teams high on the list. Redskins, Knicks, Lakers, Bulls, Clippers, Cubs, etc.

In all fairness, if he's STAYED a Cowboys fan, he has had to stick by a team through hard times. :p

I know that value includes many factors; I wasn't aware of how many totally 'meh' teams have considerable value.

One good thing about the 'girls slide over the past 20 years is......an entire generation grew up viewing them as a failure. One bad thing is I still run into 'girls fans who want discuss the glory days and ignore 20 years of mediocrity.

I have no high hopes for the Texans on offense because I still view Osweiler an an unknown. I'm looking forward to the preseason games because I'm sure that Brock is the pre-determined starter, despite what OB says, and will see lots of playing time.

@Chris Noyb I'm not clear why you clearly hate the Cowboys. Is it due to the Texans? Or because you live in Houston? Because of the new Stadium? Because Romo has a great record? Because of the money? You are a Texan! You live in Texas! Texas is a great State . The Cowboys were my Dads team and therefore my team, as my own man I still like them. It's Okay to like many different teams . This year I have high hopes for the Dolphins. What a Hater. They make medicine for that you know.

I'm a native Houstonian, and I've listened to obnoxious cowgirls fans since I was old enough to understand football. After five decades of hearing comments along the lines of "The Oilers? Hah! The (cowgirls) are a real football team!!", I have developed a hatred of all things dallas cowgirls. And I don't give a shit that they're a Texas team.

I don't think that it is a stretch to associate hubris with the cowgirls as an organization and with many of their fans. Yes, they had some periods of great success from 1960-1995 which gave them, the organization & fans, certain bragging rights. The problem for me is that bragging reached the point of being unbearable. Therefore I hope that the cowgirls have at least 35 straight years of mediocrity to match their 35 years of successes; the good news is they've have 20 years of mediocrity (something which many delusional 'girls fans simply will not acknowledge).

Romo has great stats, but the simple fact is he has never came through in the big games when it counted (see T. Brady & P. Manning for comparisons). Which is fine with me ;).

And I seriously enjoy hating all things dallas cowgirls  :D.

Why did JJ Watt wait so long to have his back surgery? There are reports that the problem was found late last season, i.e. he had could've and should've had the surgery much earlier. Of course there could be legitimate reasons why the surgery wasn't done sooner.

The Texans sign free agent RB Lamar Miller away from the Dolphins, then cut injury prone Arian Foster. The Dolphins end up signing Foster to a one year deal, which says a lot about their lack of confidence in him staying healthy. And now Foster is on the Dolphins' Physically Unable To Perform list. This could be nothing because Foster is a veteran who doesn't need the preseason (and the wear & tear that comes with it), or it could be a big deal because Foster needs to learn the Dolphins' offense.

Mentioning former Texans, Andre Johnson signed with the Titans. I have a deep respect for AJ, and wish that he could leave the NFL with a SB ring, but his signing with the Titans shows some desperation by both parties.
