Damn this thread seriously needs resuscitation.

I love it when a perennial underdog makes it to a championship series or game. And now we have two playing in the World Series. I would like to see the "lowly" Cubs win the series, but won't be upset if the Indians win it.

The bad news for the Indians is most folks outside of Cleveland are pulling for the Cubs. If the Indians win, will they be vilified for beating the Cubs, and will the series then be considered a fluke featuring two not-so-great teams (if it isn't already)?

As a White Sox fan, I really don't care who wins too much. Cleveland is a division rival, the Cubs are a cross town rival. I'm not one to really "hate" on opposing teams very much, so I don't strongly dislike either team. No matter what happens, I think they are both in a position to compete over the next few years if they stay healthy, so either may have a chance to be back soon. That being said, as someone who lives relatively close to Chicago, and as a fan of baseball history, I think it'd be a little more interesting to watch the fallout from a Cubs win than anything else. At one point in the past I told myself that if the Cubs ever got into the World Series I'd try to get in the park for at least one game even if the money to do so was stupid. But the prices are WAY too stupid. Just to get in the park with a standing room only ticket is $2000+. For seats in the area I usually sit in (second section back in the lower part of the park, good seats but not incredible seats) the tickets are around $5-8000. So that idea is out.

I can't imagine paying that much money, especially knowing that whatever team you were rooting for could lose. Ouch.

    That is stupid money.

Boxing is--OK, these days mostly was--by far my favorite sport. I wouldn't pay that much to see The Most Historic Boxing Match Ever (whatever it might be). Not even if a match could be made between Tyson & Ali with both in their prime.

    Go, Cubs!

I recently read an old joke, not sure where it belongs, but since this a baseball thread....

Joe takes his dog into bar that has sign reading No Pets Allowed. The bartender says, "Sorry, but the dog has to stay outside." Joe responds, "My dog is special, he talks." "Hmm," says the bartender, "let's hear it."

"What's the covering on the top of our house called?" "Roof, roof."
"What's is like to run down a gravel road?" "Ruff, ruff."
"Who was the greatest baseball player?" "Ruth, Ruth."

"That's enough," says the bartender, "both of you need to leave. Now."

As they're walking out the door the dogs looks up at Joe, and says, "Dimaggio?"

I haven't watched baseball much this year, sadly. Reds finished in the basement (boo), but I find myself hoping the Cubbies can pull this off. And I'm loving all the Major League / Rookie of the Year references.

Edited to add: Also, Schwarber is a hometown kid, so that's another reason to cheer for the Cubs :)

    Congrats to the Cubs!

Coming back from down three games to one. A tough and dramatic game.

Something tells me there will be many people calling in sick in the greater Chicago area.
