10/22
i got a question about my ruger 10/22 for anyone who has advice and/or experience. i've had the gun for about 3 years now. i added a BSA Red Dot scope very shortly after i bought the gun. i scoped it very percisly at 25 yards.(i use it mostly for squirell hunting and target shooting) Just recently i added a Ruger 10/22 Slipover Flash Hider from Cabela's. when i took my gun to the range to test it before squirell season, it was printing a good seven inches off bullseye at 25yds. so i adjusted the sight, but it didnt seem to help, it seems as if every shoot is random. im wondering if the flash hider is screwing up the guns tragectory

Uh, yeah.
You had it sighted in, put the flash suppressor on, and now it shoots like shit. I would recommend several things, in this order: 1. Take the Suppressor off, with care. 2. Take 10/22 back out to range. 3. Take 5 sets of 5 round groupings. 4. If problem is solved, you (or the installer) screwed up temporarily when putting it on. 5. Go to a professional gunsmith and have them install flash supressor. If the problem is not solved, you (or the installer) screwed up permanently when putting it on. If that is the case, then: 6. Cry. 7. Take the 10/22 to a professional gunsmith and have them try to remedy the problem. If it helps, cry in the store to get a discount. 8. Promise the professional gunsmith that you will never again try that yourself (or use the services of whoever screwed your gun up). |
thanks for the advice, ill try what you recomended then go from there.
preciate it. |
also, im not sure how i could have screwed up when installing the flash hide. It is a very simple instalation.
1. slide on the flash hide, apply preasure untill flush 2. tighten set screw on bottom let me know if you see were i could have messed up, besides the fact that my gun don't shoot streight no more. :( |
if that flash supressor is even just a few thousanths of an inch off center, the projectile is going to hit it as it comes out of the barrel. CAREFULLY remove the flash supressor. Also could ya link us to the supressor you bought?
|
my computer wouldnt let me insert a link for some reason. But i can give you instructions on how to get the it online. Its pretty simple:
1. www.cabelas.com 2. look at the tool bar on left under "online store" 3. click on "hunting/optics" 4. scroll down just a little untill you see the title "shooting accessories" 5. then click on "mini 14/30 - 10/22 Acc." 6. scroll down to the second row from the bottom and click on "Ruger 10/22 Accessories" 7. lastly, scroll down second from the top and click on "Ruger 10/22 Slipover Flash Hider" sorry for the trouble. and thanks for the help |
it looks like that flash supressor surrounds the front sight on three sides, without grabbing my 10/22 and looking at it, I think the front sight is a dovetail type mount. If i'm correct, you could have moves the sight when installing the supressor,

no i dont use the original sites. I use a BSA red dot
|
well I'm gonna guess that the flash supressor may be messing with the flow of gasses coming out of the barrel, that would cause the problems you're having
|
that was my initial thought, and i think you might be exactly right.

to those of you who gave advise and still look at this, I just talked to one of my uncles who is a retiered Game Warden with over 30 years of experience. He told me that flash supressores are not good for the gun. he said that it changes the weight of the barrel. the barrel is mounted with the action to be perfectly accurate right as the bullet leaves the barrel. As you may know, the barrel vibrates upon firing. The extra weight of the flash supressor changes the vibration, and makes it varry each and every shot. Therefor the vibrations that the gun was factory designed to be accurate with are none existant.

he's right technically.
but a free floated bull barrel a stock 22 is not. it's called harmonics doesn't really matter tho, .22's are not noted for their incredible flash. I think your flash supressor was more likely fucking with the barrel crown. |
